TIME GOES ON: So we're past the middle of the Day -- January 25TH -- that means in 11 months it will be Christmas & all those consumerized gifts should be open - even the ones that have been regifted from last month's bounty.

Where's this Posting going - no one knows. And, no one really cares for the most part.

I just had some free time so I figured I'd get online. I have no pretty Star Pictures to post like Uncle Roger; don't know a thing about the SuperBowl; nor do I have any Recipes like the Food Network, but that really has never stopped me B-4.

ASK’s COMMENTS ON THE MAYOR’s STREAM – Rahm Emanuel – Chicago, IL USA: http://www.livestream.com/chicagomayorsoffice - The Topic that we all talked about was Education in Chicago. I had never participated in a forum like this before & it was totally engaging. It’s an infuriating topic when kids who are not wealthy or affluent don’t have access to a quality education. When some 50% of the kids in Chicago do not finish high school. What I had done was posted this earlier on my FB page here. I also emailed my MOTHER – who is my FIRST TEACHER and she participated by reading along for about 30 of 40 minute session. Yes, there was an easier day when quality education was available for most of us. What’s happening now is what I call THE DUMBING OF AMERICA & U see it all over – it’s deplorable. For a nation as great as America, this condition should never have EVER happened. Get involved with a local school in your area. Tutoring is an avenue we can all take. The return of vocational schools is fundamental also. As I concluded with: It’s teams of People who are concerned about the KIDS & their Education that will make that difference – We have to start that: NOW!

ASK’s CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK:
It honestly took me 59 years to figure this out, but it’s a Revelation that hit me at 5:10 PM CST today. A Potato Chip Revelation that’s well worth its WEIGHT in time. It started out like this.

THE SCENARIO STARTED LIKE THIS: I moseyed down the CHIP aisle @ Jewel-Osco this afternoon and what caught my eye was a $ale. Save Money. Eat large. I somehow forgot to eat breakfast & lunch. Famished was the word. I spotted 3 tall canisters of PRINGLES was on $ale for $5. To me, that was a Salty-Deal well-worth considering. And then, all of sudden I spotted them in such an Array of Tastes, I quickly pulled my top 3 which are flavored as: Sour Cream & Onion –BBQ & Multi-Grain with Cheesy Cheddar.

Then tonight @ supper as I grabbed the BBQ can I happened to decide to read the label which read that there are 6 servings per container – and that would equate to 150 calories for those of you (and that has always included me) who count Calories. For 54 of my 59 years I’ve sampled about every variety of Potato Chip that’s been made, but they are so hard to take an accounting (of).

I remember once when I was 6 I made the first Potato Chip Sandwich. 2 pieces of which bread and a few layers of Chips. They were kind of hard to get your mouth around, but I thought the taste was a new taste-sensation. Sure those small bags of chips have a ‘count’ - several hundred calories, but with PRINGLES that are perfectly formed, all U need do is take them from the container, divvy them up 6 ways, count your calories & there you have. It could not be simpler. And the way they are all fashioned being the SAME, they are much easier to handle.

Pringles are a delicious taste without worrying about over-indulgence. I became fascinated with this as much as my Potato Chip Sandwich that occurred to me over 50 years ago. And the fact that you can have a WHOLE CHIP – nothing broken up or shriveled up – that’s found in so many other different BAGS OF CHIPS.

That’s 1 of my Perks of my job of being an EAT-ventologist ™. Somebody’s got to count their CHIPS and eat them, too! And, yes, for a Revelations and/or Run-Down like that a year’s supply of free Pringles sounds good enuf to eat. Send them on over!

Hi Mayor: My problem is a bit more general, but pertains to us Chicagoans who are entering our 60s. I have about 6.5 more months until I hit the Big 6-Oh-My-Gosh, but 1 of my main concerns is my MOTHER who is 83. For the most part we are worried about CRIME ON THE STREET & its increase and frequency. Besides bad weather in the city (which I know you have no control over), older People (those 60 & older) worry about falling. As the days get darker from November – March, it’s not ‘that safe’ to be out. Many people also live on side-streets and find it is a tad-bit scary to walk down those blocks because QUITE FRANKLY you just don’t know WHO is hiding & lurking in the shadows.

On Dec. 23, 1991, I was accosted, beat up, robbed & left-for-dead in the lobby of my apt. bldg. where I live today. That was not fun – esp. since it happened 2 days before Xmas. My attacker did not realize I was Jewish & was not carrying any Christmas Gifts in my big black tote. Artists always carry those. They are so convenient when schlepping our projects around from Point A to B.

Now, I know our fine City is the THIRD largest in the USA & according to Wikipedia

And, I keep up with the News & realize we are in DEBT due to wreckless mismanagement – I know how that goes because my Father was Mayor for 16 years in Mendota, IL USA, and he tried to bring in commerce. etc.

The 3 main points that fuel ‘my fire’ are:

1) The population of the City – the demographics – ie: Chicagoans – our neighbors) are getting older. But this is good. Experience counts. The(ir) Stories are cool. Babyboomers (as myself) are aging gracefully. Our parents are ‘already there’ – coming in at the 75+ year mark.

2) Crime (and the lack of jobs and/or opportunity to have a job that pays all the bills like it was in the 1970s-1980s) combined with drugs, drinking & the proliferation of the handgun (where they are a dime-a-dozen on the streets) cause a ‘criminal element’ to ‘attack’ those they feel are prey. That’s 1 of the reasons why I was attacked on Dec. 23, 1991 – I looked like ‘easy prey’ for a quick get-away.

3) CHICAGO (who will be celebrating her 175TH Birthday on March 4TH) has lots of fun things to do; however, if a person feels like he/she would be safer by just staying at HOME & missing out on all this CULTURE via all the 100 diff. neighborhoods we have access to, this is a very sad commentary for what can become a totally wasted life.

There’s got to be SOME group that aids and assists Seniors who want to get out without the Fear Factor playing such a large role in their lives. I know I speak for the masses here.

I suggest we all work on a PLAN that I call: Operation Kindness: chicagOK ™ where the last 2 letters of chicagOK – become Operation Kindness. Basically, it’s a way to help out one’s neighbors and make sure they have QUALITY OF LIVING on a day-by-day bases without the worry of weather – crime & what happens to us just because we get old. If a plan like this would be PUT INTO ACTION throughout our neighborhoods, it would be a win-win situation for all involved.

This was just something I wanted to tell you about --- to keep in the back of your mind as I know you meet with LOTS of different people every day. UNIQUE NAMES RULE:The Name, Hadrian has a long, important and religious History. Six of the original 266 Popes (since the Year 32) that have graced the Halls of Christianity and Catholicism were bestowed with it. The Name crosses over and is classy enough for the non-religious sectors to claim as well. The name, Adrian or (H)adrian would soon branch off to cover ‘Adrienne’ (and its spicy derivating Alternates and Synonymic Spellings that include:

The Statement published said that ADRIAN was Italian in Origin and its Definition was ‘Man of the Sea’ while its Feminine Version, spelled out as ‘Adrienne’ stood for ‘Woman of The Seacoast.’ Most likely it was named after the Adriatic Sea surrounding Italy (located west of the Boot).

However, for me (personally), I found the Name most ironic (yet beautiful to say and write) as I was born a Fire Sign under Leo, The Lion and could not swim. Never-the-less, I wasn’t about to change it since the ‘A’ in Adrienne stood for my Great Grandmother ‘Anna’ Teitelbaum and was a Tribute to her.Now as I google ‘Adrienne,’ that Definition is not written anywhere in sight or on-site, except now on My BLOG, KOOPERSMITHin’ ®, where it will happily rest.As the Assignee or Recipient of ADRIENNE DAY ©2001 that falls on January 23RD, for 2008 upon its 7TH Year Milestone, I have taken the liberty to change its proper Name or Title to:

3) The "Hyena" – Doesn't ever really say anything, just LOLs and LMAOs at everything.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 is quickly drawing to a close, but I must say that it marks the 7TH Day of Intl Thank You Days ©1994. I can honestly say I am so thankful for getting this Dissertation nearly done. It grew from 2 Words last Week to 11,909 & is shaping up wonderfully. I’m even surprised & it takes LOTS to surprise me. Can U imagine if I had to write this with pencil or crayon! My hands and arms would be pulsing. Writing via a Computer is the greatest Invention & I’m so thankful that We live in a day & age when that’s possible. Thank our Lucky Stars, too. Uncle Roger knows a lot about the Stars, he’s a stellar sort of Dude!
I’m also thankful for BETTY WHITE who celebrated her 90TH Birthday last night. That’s when I hit the 10,117 mark on my Dissertation & I really needed somebody to crack me up. Betty & her Friends did just that. But I want to comment MORE on her 2-moro & what she stands for. Tracing this all back to its roots, I’m also thankful for Screens as the TV & Computer Screens made these 2 comments possible & easier. And on that note…I’m going 2 let U all B thankful as this Posting is only 242 long! That may B the biggest thing to be thank-ful yet during my Holidate known as INTERNATIONAL THANK YOU DAYS ©1994.

Three debut authors & a New York Times Best-Selling author who self-published his latest work are the winners of the Chicago Writers Association’s first Book of the Year Awards.

The awards will be presented at 7 p.m. Jan. 14 at The Book Cellar, 4736-38 Lincoln Ave., in Chicago’s Lincoln Square. The event is free and open to the public.

Since it’s wintertime in these parts, what better way is there to pass that time than to warm up with a great selection of books. After attending last night’s Awards Ceremony, I suggest you start with these:

Sunday, January 15, 2012 marks Day #5 of my INTERNATIONAL THANK YOU DAYS ©1994 as well as Martin Luther King’s Birthday. Dr. King would be 83 years old today. Although ITYD has a set Eventological Formula for its 8-Days of Celebration (in book format that I wrote ‘back during the late 1900s’ that only I know), being grateful, appreciating & thanking can take all varieties of formats & since MLK’s Birthday is Today, on the Ides of January, We should stop & think & say: THANKS – by thinking of all the great Speeches he wrote; the marches he partook in; the Risks he took, even by sacrificing his own Life – in order that People of (all Skin Tones) can & should come together & try to live in Peace & Harmony. Now, to me, that’s a Format & Formula that must be taken up by more People as We start our Days & end our Nights. I’m also grateful for the Fact that I had a great Visit with my Mother who taught me the things in life like being thankful as well as the fact that it’s Sunday – a PLAY DAY; it’s sunny out; the Snow is melting; & tasks are getting done. Moreover, I’m additionally grateful for the terrific CHICAGO WRITERS ASSOCIATION AWARDS EVENT that I attended last night @ the Book Cellar on N. Lincoln Avenue in Chicago & grateful for what Dr. King left us with, a quote that states:

INTL THANK YOU DAYS ©1994 is still here with us. Today, Saturday, January 14TH, 2012 is Day #4 if my math serves me write. It ought to. I created it; so it's just like ONE OF MY CHILDREN &/or TOYS since I have no human kids that I know of. Altho 1/2 of Today is over and it might be too late to thank someone - as it's noon here in Chicago - meaning it's Sunday 1/2 a world away from Chicagoland, USA, I am thankful for FACEBOOK. It's also a month before Valentine's Day so GUYS get ready to shop; be romantic & spoil your loved ones - pets, included.

As for myself, I am thankful I got to sleep in. After all, it is Saturday - a Day of Rest. Some Tribes don't even: WOTS: Work On The Sabbath. Lucky-Lucky-Them. And, the Post Office in this area of town is closing down; therefore, FB is the only really fast way to correspond with y'all. Yup, I have things to be thankful for besides those Ancient Sumerians who invented the Wheel & Languages that allow us to correspond so well...if they only knew...

I am thankful for High Technology today becuz I needed help on sentence & since it's nice over here in the City that rocks, Chicago & nobody is home, I wrote to a dear friend - a Literary Agent out on the East Coast to help me brush a thought up. DID HE? Yes, he did - he even used a Latin Word so I sound 'smart.' Yes, and for that I am THANK-full he is on my side as well as being smart and someone I can count on. I'm also thank-full for shameless plus like this one, where I get to show-off one of my photos that I took of DAH FROG -- GORF, as found in my GOING GREEN ChicaGORF literature, books and even on my blog. This is my 800th BLOG since November 2007:

EVENTOLOGICALLY-speaking there R 3 major HOLIDATES happening today besides the Traditional Ones. There’s Intl Thank You Day #3 of 8 where we stop and thank somebody somewhere for something that they may have done that we didn’t really acknowledge. This HOLIDATE was actually for my kindergarten teacher, Miss Lucille Fritz that taught me how to start creating. She was the 2nd person. The first is My Mom. However, in 1957, I was forced to go to kindergarten. Moms were not allowed That made me cry. Miss Fritz (this was before women began using the ‘Ms.’ Prefix) led me over to a chair and table, about 2 feet off the ground and set me down with a piece of paper & crayola. At which time, I totally LOST MYSELF in my drawings & whatever else I found ‘of interest.’ Thanks to Miss Fritz I’ve been LOST ever since. Then, I graduated from Kindergarten and never thanked her for that experience. Miss Fritz actually taught my Dad, younger bro and sister as well as myself. After my sister graduated she retired – having had enuf of ‘our family.’ Not that we were all cry-babies…So although it was 35 years after I attended Miss Fritz’s Kindergarten Class, I’m still thankful for what she provided. OK, U can stop crying now – although we can be thank-ful for Kleenex & Tissue today – esp. in the cold of winter when our noses run…and cars don’t.

Then, there’s INTL SKEPTICS’ DAYS ©1997 that deals with being skeptical. Many Skeptics Societies exist around the world – which are responsible for dispelling the quacks amongst us. Not that there are any quick quacks here on my Facebook page, of course, but for the most part they are astute scientists or those involved in disproving things that just don’t lay right, but are ‘promoted’ nonetheless. I had written a booklet on the subject matter and sent it out to all of them as I find the topic fascinating. Their Main Resource is found at: http://www.skeptic.com/ Now, ISD only occurs when there is a Friday the 13TH – therefore, there are never more than 4 in any given year – it’s considered a FLOATING HOLIDATE and can just pop up on your if UR not skeptically inclined. However, it does have one steady & sturdy date of November 4TH – the time of (an) election. I’ve been skeptical about candidates for years so this date also falls into the Skeptical Realm.

Then, of course, for all you fashionistas OUT THERE, there’s FAUX FUR FRIDAYS ©2008 which is self-explanatory. No small and fuzzy creature should be dying because you want real fur. The lines of faux fur are so incredible these days, many look even better than the animal they were patterned after.

As my Friend, DAN SHURE stated in a previous FB note he penned: I need to start celebrating and there must be at least six holidates just today I could be enjoying.

He’s WRITE U know, but gosh, I’m ready for a nap after just writing about those 3. There’s always tomoro to be thankful; skeptical and faux’d for! I smell lunch…

Nearly all of the ANTS of iN THE COMPANY OF ANTS ©2010, the Script I penned that beat out 3164 others in a Hollywood Screenplay Competition have been ‘charactered’ to my exact liking. That I like. Dateline: January 9, 2012: Nine (9) years & 11 months ago I became tremendously frustrated because 1 of my fave Chicago mags stated their demographics centered on those who were between 25-49. Well, I was going to turn 50 in 6 months & this maddened me since I was a fan of this Pub for a long, long time. So, as I always do – I use my creative streak & literary talents to let off steam & created AFSEE: Advocates For Senior Equality & Enrichment ©2002 which is a forum that I use in which to tell about justices turned inside out for those of us who are 50+. And, this Decade, especially with layoffs – downsizing and other social aspects really gave me lots of food for fodder & topics to expose.

Now, as I look @ the Calendar ‘today’ – I’m approaching 60 in 7 more months, which makes AFSEE® all the more important, to say the least, one thing that most writers cannot do or refuse to do.

Coincidentally, 1 of my favorite Programs, NBC’s TODAY SHOW turns 60 this Month on January 13TH. Or as I like to call mine:

Countdown to 60

NBC’s could most certainly be called: CountdowNBC.

But there’s a difference between the Age of a Person and that of an inanimate Object. I’m not sure why this is so. Maybe I’ll find out within my next 60. If any one knows why, send that News on over ‘Today.’

Happy New Year! It’s officially here. Say, can U tell us all ... out here:

WHAT THE TOY TRENDS OF 2012 ARE?

No doubt, those Trends on the East Coast are different from those of the West Coast compared to ours, located here in the Heartland. Then, there’s all that fine TOY-age found in other Places on Planet Earth that are influenced by their particular Surroundings & WoLaL: Way of Life and Living.

Then, you certainly cannot forget those of us who are astute Vintage vs. Modern TOY Collectors. There are so many Compartments when it comes to ATT: All Things Toy. That’s what keeps us interested in them, all of them & every single one of ‘them.’

Now, as usual, I’m setting a few Trends of my own as ‘Dressing as Your Favorite Toys.’ That’s in the Plural, of course. When it comes to TOYS, my Motto is TMTM: The More The Merrier. Yes, I already have that Acronym made into Postcards. T-Shirts will be sold 4 Valentine’s Day. Mugs by the Ides of March. And, when you dress as your Favorite Toy, they don’t have to necessarily be ‘Dolls.’ They can just as easily be plush, plastic and/or robotized TOYS – whatever tickles your fancy or not so fancy (if UR a simpler Sort of Personality). However, if you’re like me – an avid and life-long TOY Collector & Enthusiast, TOYS are a daily Phenomenon & are quite addicting, like Chocolate.

While thinking & pondering about this Topic, this may just be the YEAR OF TOYS (p.e.r.i.o.d). We’re certainly lucky to have 2012 as a Leap Year that equates to one (1) more Day to collect, play & dust our Collections. We certainly have a Plethora of Varieties & an Olio of Assortments in which to pick & chooz. Maybe I just answered my own Question.

Although I was not online - on the monumental date of Sunday, January 1, 2012 to fully commemorate & immortalize my official COUNTDOWN TO SIXTY® as the year spun over from 11 to 12, I'm particularly happy to note that my favorite Broadcasting Network - TV Station, NBC also turns 60 this year. They are about 6 months older than I am. NBC's birthday/anniversary falls on the 13TH of January - shortly & mine is on August 9TH.

Therefore, for any Person born in 1952 who wants to note/commemorate and/or celebrate this Time Slot, please join me in this Year Long Event -- as we do get an extra Day with Leap Year falling @ the End of February. Your Experiences can be written up; video'd – via any creative means that you prefer.

Perhaps a magazine, TV producer and/or book publisher can be found to then take the Project to the next Level. After all, there's nothing like the Power of a BabyBoomer and since the general Population is aging gracefully, We B-52-ers can show them HOW it is done exactly & correctly.

Hi Randi: I heard somewhere that Dec. 25 may not even be Christ's actual birthday date...and we have no way of really knowing. I think that after 365/366 days of 'messing up' and drinking/eating our way thru December, we need a clean slate to start it all over again, altho U can figure every day as a new beginning. What I think people should do is just set Xmas for the last Sunday of December -- that way they can party Fri nite thru Monday evening - straight thru, non-stop and it won't disrupt any week day plans or festivities. For you see, you commemorate the Spirituality of Christmas on December 25TH & you go out and buy gifts for your loved ones on the Day after (December 26) when the prices are lowest. After all, let us not forget that it’s the Spirit of Love, Understanding & Camaraderie that makes us humane – not a bright Red Ferrari sitting in the drive or a trip to the SoF: South of France. Those will only last so long, but if you must buy a Present for someone special, Today is the deemed Day in which to do so.

When this HOLIDATE ® was first fabricated in 1993 (as it takes 1 year to launch any good HOLIDATE TO CELEBRATE) the retail sales were never held before Christmas as they are today. With times being sluggish as they are, we’re looking at an entire NEW & DIFFERENT Eco-Christmas® Day, but the bottom line remains: Sales & Saving. It’s not only for the Frugal amongst us – it’s the new Way of Thinking, Preparing & Planning for the Future.

ASK’s RECOLLECTIONS: Back in the early 1990s, I created a Seasonal Holidate called ECO-Christmas©1994 (whose theme was based on saving money and keeping with the Spirit of the Holiday – not to ‘GO commercial’ as so many people do, but to GIVE a gift; and ultimately enjoy the Day in the Company of those you love.

Afterwards, on December 26 – after U R done celebrating to go shopping – exercise and pick up some great Deals. However, within that 18 year span, the economy has changed radically as we all know. With people losing their homes, what can you buy – if you don’t have a roof over your head.

Life has been turned upside down for too many of us. What’s particularly interesting to note now is that Retail Stores are giving sizable – if not huge discounts before the Holiday arrives to entice shoppers and big spenders to spend all the more. Now, U can also shop online. Whereby back in 1994 when ECO-Christmas©1994 (meaning to economize on your Xmas Gifts) was launched – barely any retailer was on-line and if they were – mall shopping was ‘The Rage’ anyway. The Change we are experiencing now, as we approach December 26 - the 18TH year Celebration of ECO-Christmas will show that many of those shelves will be bare, but the regifting and returns will surely fill them back up!

I would guess that since I do participatein my own Holidates (after all somebody has to see if they run well), I have saved about $22,000 the last 18 year. That’s nice. That’s something U can take to the bank and ‘bank on….’ Happy Holidays to all my Dear Friends here on Facebook that have made my Year a wonder! You’re the Best!

December 23, 2011: 20TH Year Anniversary of The Formation of CAC: Cartoonists Against Crime ©1991.

20TH Year Anniversary of The Formation of CAC: Cartoonists Against Crime ©1991

So where were you 20 years ago today? Any idea? If you weren’t born, then you may not recall. If you happen to be a person who ‘rates’ experiences in their Life(times) as I do, then the day may stand out. And this is why December 23 (1991) stands out for me:

Today, Friday, December 23, 2011 is a date that I may not have seen. That’s because 20 years ago today @ 6PM exactly, I was beat up, robbed & left-for-dead in the lobby of my apartment building – 2 days before Christmas in 1991. Twenty Years. That’s nearly 1/3 of my life. What a shame if it would have happened – that I would have succumbed at the hands of a ne’er do-well, croppy and sweat bee who then grabbed my black tote bag and made off – with not too much – since I’m Jewish & wasn’t carrying a single Christmas Present.

Being a Victor & not a Victim is one concept that I have always kept in mind since that Ordeal happened. One of the Creative & Positive Endeavors that came out of that Incident was that I created CARTOONISTS AGAINTS CRIME ©1991 whose Motto was: CAC: We Draw Cartoons – Not Guns! ® which later developed into an international constituency of Cartoonists, Illustrators, Comic Artists and aficionados – and some of its members were even ‘in jail’ who were remorseful. Go figure that one out…Striking a nerve is what definitely happened with the Formation of this Group, bound and determined to deter Crime and the harsh realities of what can happen – in a moment or less.

At that time, Crime Prevention was #1 on President Bill Clinton’s Agenda. Being a Writer & local Personality, the Media immediately ran with my Story as I realized what happened to me could definitely happen to anyone else. Just returning home from work, one evening when I was ‘followed’ in to the lobby of my apartment by a stranger. IF I had only closed the wrought iron gate behind me & not ‘dilly-dallied’ in the lobby looking for my key to retrieve my mail, NONE of that horror would have happened.

Yet, it changed my life FOR THE BETTER.

Robin George of NBC – Channel 5 in Chicago did an interview. Harry Porterfield of ABC Channel 7’s ‘Someone You Should Know’ spotlighted by efforts launching CAC. Dahleen Glanton of the Chicago Tribune ran a lengthy & pictoralized Account in an April, 1992 issue of this Paper, rated as #6 in the nation. At my urging and/or suggestion, Mayor Richard M. Daley made October 25TH of each year: CARTOONISTS AGAINST CRIME Day ©1993 – in 1993. Governor Jim Edgar declared December 3 as ‘Day Without Crime’ © - also in 1993 for the Citizens of Illinois.

And, sorry to say: 20 years later, Crime is still amongst us. White Collar Crime is out of control. The Criminals seem to be getting younger, bolder, fiercer and the proliferation of hand-guns has sky-rocketed. If there’s a moral conscience left, it’s often not seen (enough). Still in all, it is every person (all of us – from the youngest to the oldest) who can make a difference and I urge and encourage all of you to take a stand in whatever Crusade you feel strongest about!

So, what can be done in 20 years besides:

As 'America's Premier Eventologist & EAT-Ventologist' I know it's all too easy to get fat and remain fat. The answer is quite simple. Eat less and move. There are all sorts of interesting fun and 'moving' things to do. If U can afford (or your folks), a bike is a terrifically mobile way to get around; be green and a way to peddle off frustration and get in some fresh air that is mandatory. If U don't bike during the winter - or prefer not to (dependent on the climate U live in), get a stationery bike. Exercise with some friends in a gym - the local YMCA has plenty of room. And, if UR a spiritual kid, begin a program at your school, synagogue, church, etc. where a portion of your weekly meals are sent to 3rd - 4th world countries where there is no food. Let your conscience be your guide when it comes to eating. The lighter U feel; the more energy U may have. So glad U R addressing this issue with "Mommie, What Is Healthy Food?" AMERICANS, if I see 1 more TV Food Commercial or Facebook Food Posting here, I’ll just scream-out-loud. And my Yelps are guaranteed to break the Sound Barrier-at-large. After all, U got to love these times of the year here in the United States of America when We eat more in a Week than some Kids in poor Countries eat in a Year & then Experts wonder why so many of us are overweight if not just plain morbidly obese. And about those starving Kids in 3RD World Countries -- weren’t they starving 40+ years ago when many of us were growing up? Happy Holidays 2 U & your Staff! I can't think of anyone who has a neater job than you do - except me, as I have collected TOYS since I was born - 59 years ago and now use them as my characters in my books & movie scripts. I even have the trike I rode when I was 6 & can still 'fit my tousche on it' - ah, that's when they really made seats suitable!

I went to your site for some FUN -- but have a heavy-duty question to ask of you. Hopefuly, U will have a moment. So you will know & understand: Part of my 'MESSAGE' in my creative writings (that expands to books & movie scripts) is to give RESALE TOYS a 2nd chance - it's like adopting a kid and/or a pet. So today I found the most incredible 3 foot long by 28 inches (from arm to arm) Salamander TOY @ Re$ale that I immediately picked up -- ALL MINE -- for Sequel 5/Book 5. What a glorious TOY! However, I like to know WHO manufactured them. It's not that UR ever going to find the specific designer that created that special TOY-- but the previous owner had cut the NAME TAG off...& I am totally miffed and baffled. I've seen 10s of 1000s of TOYS the last 59 years, but NEVER one like him. His Name is SILURI as I know he's from the SILURIAN PERIOD. I do my research. AND: Yes, all my TOYS (even my furniture) is uniquely named.

SPECIAL REQUEST TIME:
ANYWAY, Ms. JB., can you - do you - are you planning to have a web page devoted to OLD(er) TOYS and who designed them -- like an archive for people like me who are 'just that curious?' That would be so very helpful. As I toted SILURI around the Re$ale Store -- people's eyes popped open -- they (these were grow-up adults) just had to pet his head! It was quite an experience. I should have had a camera team following me around & about.

U always know U hit a positive chord when People react this way...even B-4 reading the Story and/or seeing the Movie. That's good! That's an indicator that you've struck a nerve...Plus, in a cold city -- where many people are NOT that friendly, TOYS seem to have that Special Something that breaks thru the Ice, whether it is DecemBURR or not!

AND BEING A GIRL, I know you will enjoy this one. Siluri is beige in a reptile print pattern. While shopping, I also found a pair of Stuart Weitzman Heels in this exact motif. Yes, I will be doing a FOTO SHOOT with him in a few days. Can we be starting a new Trend: Dressing like your TOYS - there's a possibility here - it's not the First Time I've done it! Total Cost of my Spree: $6.55 for a million dollars worth of Ideas. I guess it does pay to get up early.

IN CLOSING: Yes, that was my Query & Adventure for the Day: The 19th of Dec. Any help you can shed on this Dilemma of what TOY company created Siluri would be most appreciated! I O U 1!

And yes, I did have to stand in line at the Post Office waiting for the Stamps (as I only use designer stamps – none of these boring forever stamps); and print up certain excerpts & fillers as well as mail out the very important 4 page Theory of the BOOKLET which has a fun & funky title affixed to it – something that is non-denominational since this is everyone’s Season to give gifts; get gifts and regift.

MY BREAK-THROUGH IN THE ARTS. Besides writing up my YEAR END IN REVIEW (which is now over 9500 words in the making), I have been creating the

for this year & everything was going NO WHERE FAST. I have extremely particular taste when it comes to how they MUST BE PRESENTED. That’s all there is to it & them. Special Toys that are eliminating RACISM, deserve a Special Treatment.

Then, I did something quite unexpected of moi– that would be called in clinical circles as letting the LEFT SIDE OF YOUR BRAIN take over. I merely took the Collaged Photo of the 10 TOYS & placed them in a horizontal vs. vertical format & not only did they all fit in, they appeared all the better!

IN OTHER WORDS: When was the last time U tried squeezing 10 TOYS’ Pix into a 2 X 4 inch square? That vantage point gives the card an entirely different feel. That made my day! One step closer to the finished product(ion).

Last year, THE TOYS’ Holiday Card was a Calendar in which they ‘only celebrated’ the Weekends of 2011 – a spin-off of the hit song WORKIN FOR THE WEEKENDS by the incomparable Huey Lewis, but this year – like all years had to be unusual & different. Huey is online at: http://www.hueylewis.com/

ASK's COUNTDOWN TO 60: December 9, 2011 - 59 Years - 4Months

COUNTDOWN TO 60: Today I'm 59 & 4 Months old. Seems like only yesterday I was entering Kindergarten with Miss Fritz (before Miss became Ms.) and didn't have a care in the World. But Life's been good and so much better than it has been for lots of others who are making 'bad news worse' and we know who those folks are and aren't. As I watched parts & portions THE TODAY SHOW with Matt Lauer, Ann Curry & Al Roker, someone in the Plaza proudly held up a sign saying: "I'm 60 Today!" That's definitely the W to do it - be proud of every day you live...in a right & writeous way! Maybe I'll do the same thing in 8 Months -- and include a Bit of Skywriting as well.

SKiN's Fifth Sequel gets its Opening. All in a Night's Rest.

Attn: Movie Producers: Well, ‘IT’ came to me in a Dream – this Morning while rolling over. IT means an ‘idea,’ of course. I now have the Opening Sequence to SKiN’s 5TH Sequel of 7. 4 are done already. Back in the day (of July, 2010), ANTS already beat out 3,164 other scripts in a Hollywood international screenplay competition. I was not even going to begin writing this till mid-2012, but low and behold – the ‘fragment’ came in so crystal clear that I got up; pulled myself out of bed and wrote it down – immortalizing it forever. I wonder what was IN my mind to even make me think that of that particular opening? I’m certainly glad the brain works when I’m not. Ah…now only 119 more pages to go…then, all those rewrites. A very, very dear Friend of mine that I have been Friends with since early 1992 – coming up on 20 years now - sent me an Enote Facsimile – it was what he received from:

At Buckingham Palace. The one off the River Thames. Pronounced ‘TEMZ.’
The Buc Palace that’s located in JOE: Jolly Old England.
It’s given by THE QUEEN & THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH.
It’s later this Week.

It’s a night affair. It deals with the fact that this Gent has been 1 of England’s leading Movers & Shakers in The Arts/Sciences & Exploration since the 1960s. He is also an accomplished Author. Just plain ACCOMPLISHED in every Degree of ‘The Word.’ Ah, to live vicariously! How much more exciting can Life get? And, U thought this was neat – U should see the OFFICIAL ‘Entry Card.’

What will he wear?
What will they serve?
Will he curtsy? Do people practice their curtsying B-4 they meet The Royals?

Can he excuse himself and go sauntering thru the entire Castle? That’s what I would do!

It’s also the 1ST Month Anniversary that one of our Favorite Americans, ANDY ROONEY of CBS’ 60 Minutes died. I always think about Dates, being ‘America’s Premier Eventologist’ & whatever all that contains so I think of Dates & how significant they are in our Life and Lifetimes. Andy, as I recall, participated in WW II. It would be interesting to have heard what he would have said about the 70TH Anniversary – esp. since he was only in his 20s when he went overseas. I would suspect he’d be saying that WAR is no place for men, women or children and the best war fought is none at all.

Why you should endorse USC Shoah Foundation Institute Visual History Archive.

ASK’s Endorsement: IF you never lived beyond 1930, U may not have heard of the horrific Genocides that happened to what we call Civilization across our Planet. IF you never lived beyond 1930, then you definitely are not reading this FB notice. Thanks to TV, Radio & The Internet, we’re MORE in touch and in tune with one another than ever before. However, many things happening today – starting with our World Wars during the 1900s are NOT pretty – or humane to say the least. All of Civilization has been ‘founded’ on the annihilation of Populations of Peoples & Animals. AND, We consider ourselves (and these Acts) ‘human.’ I beg to differ. I often wonder about that.

However, the valiant Efforts of USC Shoah preserves the Sentiments of the Survivors who have witnessed first hand these Acts of Abhorrence against each Other. After all, We must strive to keep the History alive so that those Atrocities do not happen again. This is why I highlyencourage you – esp. at this Time of Year when the major Religions celebrate their holiest of Holidays to take some Time and investigate what USC Shoah Foundation Institute based in Los Angeles is doing. Only then, will We – well, just maybe, We will be able to find Peace here on Planet Earth. For the Sake of Humanity: You, Me, Us & Future Generations: Let’s hope so – although it will take more than Hope to pull us through.

Koopersmith explains 3F: Faux Fur Fridays® - Year #4.

Faux Fur Fridays® - officially begins today! It’s got to be FAUX FUR – it’s got to be a Friday. And, it’s better when the weather is cold. I’ll be out and about tonight, dining shopping and hanging out via the Faux Fur Jacket that gave this HOLIDATE ® its start in October of 2008. And that was when I met Robert Verdi of She’s Got The Look while he was in town looking for Models 35 & older. Well, I qualified (by a few years). I wore a knee length leopard jacket; belted and it really did make a statement. Verdi jumped off the stage and tried it on – after he got me OUT OF IT, of course. With a reaction like that, I knew that 3F would become a big hit – esp. in my Haute Couture Holidates to Celebrate. It’s not how you look, it’s when you wear FAUX FUR that makes the difference. Fridays are a great start to that Fun Time, as Friday marks the start of our Weekends. I’m out of here!

Well, it’s December 1st. Where I live, we spell that as: DecemBURR. But no matter how you spell it, it’s cold out. Let it be known that there are Ways to get around & keep warm ‘n toasty that if you don’t have a Cabana in a warm(er) Place than Chicago. The way I do it is to stay in, focused and write.

Plus, it’s mandatory to set some Deadlines B-4 U. Mine was to write out a complete Document(ary) about what my 7 Books/Movies called:

are all about & give that Project a full Month to ponder & produce. Now that the Holidays are nearly here, that designated and allocated Time Period is over with. The Task is 95% complete. In retrospect, I can & will admit that it was:

A terrific Project and goal to set for a Writer;
it became a great Marketing Tool and Way to see what’s gotten done since I undertook this entire Endeavor (basically its Theme is to erase Racism) that I began on January 29, 2009;

it now shows me what needs to be done – that ‘Perspective Thang’ is in usage now;

plus, it’s given me the Chance to say that on November 1ST when the original posting of:

was posted on Koopersmithin, my BLOG, it read as only 1494 Words. Today, that Figure stands at the 8,969 Mark, meaning 7,475 Words of Ideas were crafted & drafted and typed into place. That’s approximately: 298.96666666666664 Words per day.

But as We all know: IT’s the rewriting & editing that’s ‘The Killer’ as my friend, Cal would say.

One of my Clients did need some help this Month. He wanted to rush through a Business Letter that was to be his ‘Calling Card’ for a huge Project that was taking (in total) 17 years of his Life. This was 1 of those on-going Projects we often hear about. Because of this Writing where every Week, something else was presenting itself to me; as more Ideas seeped in, I was able to tell him to slow down & work systematically.

The ‘Oh, I should have had a V-8’ Syndrome: The worst possible scenario is that you seal-up the ‘proverbial envelope’ and then remember: “Oh, I should have said...” But then, I guess that’s why there are Sequels and Part 2’s!

And, I knew he knew what I was talking (or typing) about.

Since early November, my Goal for Today, Thursday, December 1, 2011 was to have posted this Paper (in its entirety on my Blog), but my Editor stated the 3 Messages are strong enough to sell to Animation, TOY, Women, Arts & General Interest Magazines. That was rather nice to hear.

Remembering CARL on World AIDS' Day: 2011

ASK ON: Remembering Carl: I haven't seen anyone post anything about December 1 being World AIDS' Day. I remember my friend, CARL, who died of the Disease back in 1985. He was such a great guy. Lived on my floor; was a great deal younger than I am; was a Cake/Dessert Chef at The Drake Hotel and 'was wild' by all accounts. He was born & raised in Ohio; moved to Chicago since his lover lived here; and we had some of the best times. We'd go to lots of estate sales; pretending we were extremely 'upscale & affluent' and for the most part we fooled lots of people. But it was no joke that when he died, there was something worse there lurking for so many more people who'd die of that horrific disease. Oh, I think of Carl even if it's not World AIDS' Day - he's 1 of the few that U meet in life that is worth remembering.

Could you live on a food budget of $4.50 a day? That’s the average food stamp benefit for IL residents. In order to call attention to the realities of HUNGER in the community and to enhance its advocacy efforts on behlf of the community, THE ARK CHICAGO is recruiting staff; board members & volunteers to participate in a 5-day Food Stamp Challenge, to run from November 27-December 1. Several ARK staff members, volunteers and community members will participate and share their experiences (anonymously, if they wish)

Participants in the Food Stamp Challenge pledge to live for 5 days on the standard food stamp allotment of $4.50 per day per person. Participants w/be encouraged to share their experiences by posting on the ARK’s Facebook page or thru direct communication with THE ARK.

The goal of the Challenge is to draw attention to hunger & other Issues of ecomonic justice & the need to sustain vital govt social safety-net programs, at a time when Congress is proposing to reduce funding for Food Stamps by $127 billion over the next decade.

But where I'm on the Creative End of The Insect by writing 2 Screenplays & Books about them called: iN THE COMPANY OF ANTS ©2009 – whereby I only read about their Lifestyle; watch them infest my Kitchen each Summer; prANTS (that's 'prance' in English) around my home each Summer & imaging what it would be like to be an ANT -- Survivors on a Wild Planet for the last 130 million years, Vasile gets down and muddy with them; he studies, records and videos ANTS and soon, after a few more years of lab work will become 'DR. ANT' himself, following in the footsteps of Dr. E.O. Wilson, one of the world's most outstanding Entomologists.

Hey Adrienne,

I'd love to answer your questions!

"There are MALE ants, right? I know the colony is mostly female run - but there are some that fertilize the eggs, etc. Right?"

Yes. Males do exist, but their only role is to mate with the virgin queens when the time is right and then they die. Males have extremely simple lives where they live in the nest, worker ants (females) feed them and keep them healthy, clean them etc. When the right moment comes these males and the virgin queens use their wings and fly out from the parent nest. They will either mate on the wing (in the air) or/and fly to nearby meadows to mate in the fields. At this time, males will mate with as many females as possible before these females shed their wings. Shortly after, these males will die off and the newly mated queens will begin looking for new suitable places to found their new colonies.

"And, would I be correct in saying: there are AT LEAST 15 colors of ANTS - I need a number. I don't want to GO to high, nor too low!"

It is estimated that theres around ~30,000 different species of ant. The color range is extremely vast, from black, yellow, brown, red, orange, green, blueish, the list can continue to shades. Out of all the research I've done, I haven't really found anything about the number of colors ants could be. It changes so frequently. Some ants are multicolored. I would have to leave that for future science to discover a proper number range!

"And, would you call 'ANTS' territorial 'by nature?"

For the most part, yes. Although it can vary and I don't speak for every species out there, ants are mainly territorial. It would seem to some that they are almost hardwired to attack any intruder to their borders whether it be predator, prey, or passers-by---including neighbouring colonies. Usually neighbouring colonies will fight each other if given the chance. It varies between species and it varies to extremes sometimes. For example, in the deserts of arizona harvester ants collect seeds in the daytime. By noon the sun is too hot for them so they must retreat back into the nest with whatever seeds they can find. This means these ants work extremely hard to forage and collect the seeds on the ground for food. When night falls, a different species of ant begins to forage. They also take a liking to seeds but there are hardly any left due to the harvester ants that collected them during the day. Going to war with another colony can prove extremely exhausting on resources both food and arms, so these ants strategically cover up the nest holes of the harvester ant nests nearby in order to block the entrances. The harvester ants don't forage at night so these ants are able to perform quite the spoiling operation. They then resume collecting whatever they can find. By morning, the harvester ants have an immense job to do before they can even forage and thats to remove all of the debris and pebbles the night ants placed there in piles. By noon, not all the seeds on the ground will be collected which means more for the night ants the following night! This is but one example of the complexity of ant behaviour and territorial behaviour.

IN CLOSING: Thank you, Vasile. The idea of a Population living via Female Control is something that is totally fascinating. Although it takes TWO to Tango, when you're dancing with the Stars, we should study ANTS for tidbits on how to survive; get along and live Life. Exciting Creatures all...you never really know what's happening below your very feet...or do you?

RANDOM THOUGHTS: Of course, a person could STOCK UP on food -- goodies - and doggy bags from T-Day on Nov. 24th - to help them thru this challenging period: Nov. 27-Dec. 1 but that might be cheating.

I would guess that buying FOOD at ALDI's and the cheaper end grocery stores - including FOOD FOR LESS & coupon clipping would be BIG. HOWEVER, the rough 'n tough part is: If you are a devout and Orthodox JEW and keep kosher -- those foods are always much more expensive -- therefore, in economically distressed times like this -- those higher end foods are going to be replaced with cheaper foods -- that are not pareve/kosher just to keep alive...

Plus, you have to wonder. With so many Americans being overweight - obese and/or morbidly obese and even UNABLE to work and/or find work -- where do they get the money -- lots of it -- to feed their Food Addictions. They must, of course, spend more than $4.50 a day to do this -- as their weight exemplifies. These people may not be active participants in your Challenge as they would be facing something (which could be termed as an ‘Obstruction’) that they could not get their ‘minds and/bellies’ around. Therefore, your Demographics would be only of EDUCATED PEOPLE who have a good grip on what it means to be healthy; how to make their meals as affordable as possible and those that are ‘more intellectually enlightened’ than those who do not see Life as: “Eat to Live and/or Live to eat.”

Even though 21ST Century deals with the Almighty Dollar, when it’s depleted, there’s not too much a person can do for entertainment – to keep up his health and/or to even buy a bottle of aspirins if a headache occurs.

Mathematically, $4.50 divided by 3 meals is that $1.50 can be spent for Breakfast – Lunch & Dinner. This does not include Salty & Sugar-coated Snacks. But guess what: Jewel sells their (delicious) generic Yogurts for 59 cents a piece – whereby Whole Foods (same size – 1 person serving) costs $.99. What would be interesting is if a PERSON can live on $4.50 – even less per day…Coupons to ‘The Rescue…’

What’s also OF INTEREST for you to be aware of (since I was a Sociology Major at College where I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1974) is that ‘most’ of the world lives on 1 Dollar a Day or less. Therefore, to most of the Members of our Granite Planet here…$4.50 is a small fortune. It just depends on where and how you live and how you ‘plan’ your day and, of course, the Resources at (y)our Disposal.

Like many of us are wondering: I hope Coupons are allowed in this Challenge…I will have to re-read your Rules & Regulations.

IN CLOSING: This is definitely a very interesting Concept - I hope many more Writers and Life-Style Conceptualists as myself participate. Getting a major newspaper like the Chicago Tribune and/or Chicago Sun-Times to feature this story in their weekly Food Section certainly would take this PROBLEM into an entirely different realm.

LOOKING ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: And, what a great way to LOSE weight - esp. at this time of year...when the TEMPTATION is higher than ever and the Prices soar and soar, ever the higher.

So DONALD, how R U going to top last night? That's what I'd like to know. For awhile there, I was wondering: Why Dead Authors. In a population of so many tens of thousands of writers – in a general population of some 3 million people – in the 3RD most cultural, cosmo-metropolitan area in America, couldn’t U find somebody ALIVE to shine the light on?

But I wasn’t going to say anything to you directly since the CLHoF is your Idea and I figured U had really good ‘n solid Reasons to host those Authors & Writers, post mortem. Plus, I didn’t want to ‘hurt’ your feelings and/or start an argument.

Then, last night after attending your 2ND Annual Chicago Literary Hall of Fame Event, it all gelled. It’s those Authors who give Chicago its uniqueness and flavor – the ones who carved out our people – our citizens – our neighborhoods – our ideals – our appeal – our magnetism. It’s their Families & Friends who keep their Spirits alive as we read and refer to those Words – never really lost as long as they are immortalized on the page – whether the page is paper or cyber.

The Program was terrific. For those People that didn't experience it, I highly suggest they mark their Calendar for #3 in 2012 - altho Third Time's THE CHARM – in this case it was #2 – your Event of yesterday - November 15TH made so many people happy as well cementing what Writing & Reading is all about for a Civilization & Society.

And, I highly suggest they (namely Teachers in the Chicago Public School & University Levels) across our City as well as the USA read the BAL: Books, Articles & Literature penned by: Cyrus Colter; Theo Dreiser; Harriet Monroe; Mike Royko; Carl Sandburg & Ida B. WHY ATTENDING THE CHICAGO LITERARY HALL OF FAME IS A MUST-DO:

“I’m a writer and a lifelong fan of literature,” said the Hall of Fame’s Executive Director Don Evans. “It’s embedded in my life. I’d been living in London and done the tour of all the great literary sites, and came back and realized there isn’t much here. Chicago is a great cultural scene. We have Harold Washington Library, The Cultural Center, and there’s so much being done, but when you walk around and try to connect the Chicago of today with the literature of the past there’s not much there. “The ceremony itself is the main attraction for the general public, but, according to Evans, the conversations that take place during the nomination and selection processes are equally valuable nuggets of literary importance that serve to shed light on the works of past greats whether or not those names make it into the Hall of Fame.”

Blog #750: Can I do without a Phone? A Book to follow IF I heed the 'Call.'

THE STRANGEST THING HAPPENED. I was approached by a lit agent who knows I like to do promotions & write alot, but is looking for someone who would go 'phoneless' for a spell in order to write it up and then go on a media frenzy talking about how they communicated only with the social networks. I was a bit skeptical about this. The $$ was good; but the stint was way too long. I figured the avg. person could do this for a month - as they often have a person 'HELD HOSTAGE' in a glass booth at the Field Museum or it may be the Mus. of Sci & Indy...but this is for 5 years. Plus, there are old sick relatives to call; boyfriends that 'call in' - the whole 9 yards. Don’t you think they find some1 outside the PR field who is not so chatty to do this kind of experiment or whatever it’s called? The word: Infringement seems to fit here, if you ask me. Would sneaking phone calls like sneaking a drink sneak their way in – I would guess so. Yes, it was a strange request...but I guess do-able & U could prob. get used to it. I need to get my Answer in to them by mid-month. What do you guys & gals think? This definitely has piqued my interest…

It’s BILL KURTIS & DONNA LA PIETRA DAY here in Chicago. This is so nice. As ‘America’sPremier Eventologist’ I love proclamations and declarations, esp. when they are so well deserved, as exemplified in this case.

I immediately went to google THE NEWS – and was expecting and suspecting as well as (also) hoping that GOOGLE would post their Pix as the Official Google Art of the Day, but alas, that wasn’t so. A rendition of THE COUPLE – perhaps done up in an Andy Warhol Motif would be on display. But it was not…at least: YET.

However, it’s great to see that 2 Chicagoans are getting their Day in the Sun – after devoting so many years to making the Chicago Scene as vibrant and outstanding as it truly is. Calling Chicago home (sweet home, Chicago since May of 1979), I’ve seen photos of BK & DLP grace every magazine and newspaper for ages – unselfishly working for the betterment of the Windy City.

A SORT-OF ENCOUNTER: Years ago, when I began Cartoonists Against Crime ©1991 (after being beat up, robbed & left for dead in the lobby of my apartment bldg. on Dec. 23, 1991 – coming up on the Crusade’s 20TH Anniversary, next month) I was interviewed at-large by a vast assortment of Radio/TV & Newspapers (not only locally, but internationally). When I appeared on Mr. Kurtis’ station – after the interview (that was done by 1 of the staff reporters), as an Anchor, he commented favorably about my endeavor. He didn’t brush it off. He gave it a fine ‘capping’ that made me very proud. I was pleased to hear that statement as getting recognition in the ARTS is difficult.

It’s great to see a devoted Couple put their ALL into our Town. Actually, Folks – and special attention to: Chicago's Cultural Affairs Commissioner Michelle Boone, don’t you think Bill and Donna deserve a Week instead of just one Day?

WAIT! WAIT!! WAIT!!! Upon reading this Expose, it’s incomplete & quite a FLIMSY posting. It doesn’t do the Power-Duo any Justice, whatsoever. Bill himself is an author, an advocate for raising Cattle ‘the right way’ and a seasoned and professional Broadcaster as well as Humanitarian. Plus, there’s no mention of Ms. LaPietra whatsoever. Certainly someone at the Tribune could have interviewed her quickly – and/or found her Bio (somewhere online).

NOW: I’m going to check to see what Bill Zwecker of the Sun-Times has to say. Bill Z. is always on-target with what he has to report.

ANDY ROONEY: A Salutation to Someone who didn't need to use Cleavage, Trash Talk or Reality TV to make his Points valid.

A TRIBUTE TO MR. ANDY ROONEY: As a writer who follows other favorites, it's a sad day for us all, but also a happy one as we were (in this time and space) graced by the Writings & Musings of ANDY ROONEY. His name says it all. Everyone knew and enjoyed his tinkerings and thinkerings on all the things in life that would have passed us by IF he had not brought them up and out to light. Now, ANDY had enough to write about.

One time during the Millennium, I wrote him a note. When he did his SWAN SONG a few weeks ago on CBS' 60 Minutes, he mentioned the fan mail he would get and stated he hardly ever wrote back to anyone. Well, guess what: I got a letter from Mr. Rooney -- one that made me very happy. I was surprised he did not correspond more, but every one has their reasons for what they don't or do do. Andy will be sorely missed but he left us with the MAGIC of the Written Word and Tapings that will live on forever.

And, I'm kind of hoping that next year for the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame's 3rd Induction, he will be 1 of the 6 Inductees. I wonder what Andy would say about that. Let's get a nice picture of ANDY up here - taken from the New York Times - online at: http://tinyurl.com/6fqc5gf

It's too bad Andy didn't make it to his 100TH Birthday as I'm sure he'd tell us some more very insightful thoughts. Gone too early, but he lived a great life and did exactly what he wanted to do. Not many of us can say we've done that; few of us may not (ever) with the way of the world today. A man of a different time who did what he pleased, that pleased many of us. That’s how we’ll remember ANDY ROONEY. Plus, on a lighter note: he did all of that on an antiquated (many would say) Royal Typewriter...which only proves that U don't need to keep up with the Times to be 'timeless.' R.I.P., Andy...

RREMEMBERING ANDY: ANDY ROONEY. It's been an entire Week now since America's priceless News Commentator died. Died on November 4TH. 4 months after another patriotic holiday: Independence Day #235 at last count. It's hard coming to terms like this - as ANDY had such a Great Way with Words and Terms on his own terms (of course) and Thoughts (lots of Thoughts)-- many which We (as individuals) thought about, but would never voice. Now, that his Voice is silenced, it's just plain sad. He would have had some really clever things to say about today – it being Veterans’ Day; it being Vets’ Day falling on the numerical series of 11-11-11. He’d probably think it was not that important and that silly superstition was just that: Silly Superstition.

60 Minutes, his TV show will not be the same without him. His segment appeared or ran at the very end. They saved THE BEST FOR LAST. They know (now knew) that tho. We know (now knew) that tho. Tho...But, I guess this entire Week (after I watched as many of the televised Tributes to him as I could) was the glaring fact that (even in a recession / depression / economic downturn), ANDY worked all the way up to 5 weeks before he passed away! I would guess that if he knew he was going to die, he'd have worked up closer to 'The Date.' If this Act(ion) does not serve as Inspiration to the rest of us - the way he lived his life, that is, then I don't know what does.
Now, I mentioned that ANDY was a "News Commentator.' He was actually more than that. He analyzed - he just didn't read from a teleprompter- he put thought, insight, meaning and fun into those broadcasts. Sunday Nights just won't feel the same without him...

Rest In Peace, Mr. Rooney.

First Rate Animation; Third Rate Screenplay.

THINKING THOUGHTS: T(his) Title immediately grabbed my Attention. When I began reading Mr. Pais’ Summary, my initial Thoughts were:

1) how could this beloved Story be told to entice a Modern Day Audience? and

2) consequently, be retold (yet another Time) without losing and/or boring the Audience Members and Reviewers who’d take ‘aim’ at whatever Marker they could.

With Competition being as fierce as it is, grabbing a Viewing Audiences’ Attention is a Talent (of its own) that goes beyond what’s viewed on a Screen. A Presentation needs to be great since its Predecessors have already set a Standard and must work to ‘improve upon it’ (so to say).

Bearing this in mind, Matt emphasized a(nother) very valuable Point (worth discussing here) since it is rooted deeply in the A&E: Arts & Entertainment Industries.

CONTINUING AS BACKGROUND: Reviewing Puss in Boots, Matt states and I slightly paraphrase the following Passage: “The opposite goes for the Story. When you rewrite Fairy Tales and their familiar Faces, the Names of the Characters barely matter. Do Fans of the Classic Jack & Jill Story get a kick out of seeing them repurposed … as evil, murderous thieves? Doubtful. Puss in Boots labors to create an alternate History from Childhood Treasures. I’ll keep mine the way I remember them, thanks.”

I agree. Don’t you? Why or why not?

WHAT SCRIPTWRITERS & ANIMATORS ARE ASKING: For a Period now, as I speak to People in ‘The Trade,’ the two burning & boggling Questions that are repeatedly pondered are:

1) Why are Hollywood Movie Studios remaking so many of these old(er) Stories?

2) In order to change the Status Quo, a New Screenwriter &/or Author (armed with a Bounty of Material, a smashing Storyline and a captivating Approach on Life [concerning critical Issues or Dilemmas] to tell that Story, that could and would change the Course of Human Ideologies (for the better) be signed for a prolonged Deal. Instead of retelling and wasting Time on an Old Classic, introduce New Values & Ideas to the Mix. Not only telling an incomparable Story that lingers in the Minds of all Viewers, this Operation also simultaneously puts many others to work. Give a Chance to an unknown Talent that knows how to tell an incomparable Story which will linger in the Minds of all Viewers. The Frosting on that proverbial cake is that this Project simultaneously puts many other Creatifs to work. This Move spells out to be a win-win Situation for all participants involved.

ASK on: My Last Halloween during my 50s...

Monday, October 31, 2011 marked my last Halloween - my fav. time of year while still in my 50s. This was a rather sad occasion for me. This holiday is celebrated by both young and old, but for some reason it was a bit bitter-sweet, we could say.

As a kid I would say: Tick or Teet. I visited MOM -- raided the candy bowl in her lobby and then biked up Paulina on my way home from a mid-day visit; where I bumped into LeeAnn Trotter & Tyndale Hurry of NBC Channel 5 doing a live broadcast of a Halloween block party! Such fun...blocking the street off and having chili with neighbors was what these folks did.

Later, up in my hood, parents took their youngsters from door-to-door. Some Holidays as Halloween are just too much fun to end...no matter if the decades pass you right / write on by. You can always write about it.

But next Halloween when I'm 60 - OH LOOK OUT!

GOING DOWN MEMORY LANE. Well, if ‘The Folks ‘ (ie: my Parents) had stuck together; if the ‘Old Man’ had not died and if there wasn’t a Divorce back in the Mid-70’s, today, the 28TH of October would have been my Parents’ 60TH Year Anniversary. Imagine that. 60 years ago, October 28TH fell on a Sunday! That means they would have slept together for 184,511 hours; slept some 7688 days (a piece, accordingly – altho that’s really not anyone’s business); eaten 66,566 meals together (some of that time with us Kids, of course) and blinked 295,831,786 times, a piece.

A special thank you shout-out goes to ‘My Birthday Book’ from Natalis Press, Inc. published in NYC in 1993 for those fun figures. Somehow, I never thought of that astounding Revelation when I was 29 (when they’d have been married 30 years); or 39 (when they’d have been married 40 years); or 49 (when they’d have been married for ½ a Century); but now that I’m 59, it just dawned on me. What do you make of that! And that’s how it is for Friday, October 28, 2011.

And yes, they are a real piece of furniture shaped as a Sculpture would be in the form of a STILETTO HIGH HEEL.

Grabbing our attention, two were in the window of Affordable Furniture & Carpet, a Furniture Store in trendy Wicker Park. Wicker Park (one of Chicago’s hottest hoods) is accessible by public transportation. We instantly walked in, absolutely loving what we saw in their front window. Never concealing a great sales ploy or Idea, I immediately spotted the Owner, ROBERT and commented he should be selling these Stiletto’s Chairs to the finest Shoe Stores; Shoe Designers, Shoe Collectors, Wearers of The Shoe, Fashion Magazines, Stylists, etc. on Michigan Avenue. “They would be flying OUT OF THE STORE on their heels. I kid you not,” I confided in him as his Sales Associates listened eagerly nearby smiling and agreeing with me.

“This is a marketing plan whose time has come!” I summed up the general sentiment floating across the room.

At which time, Robert told me to find those customers and the commission is all mine. Now, that’s an offer I cannot refuse. “What an easy job to do,” I thought to myself. ANT NEWS: ANThorities (that’s Authorities in basic English) have advised me to postpone the Publishing of iN THE COMPANY OF ANTS ©2009 till April of 2012 so that both Books (Part 1 & 2) are updated to go along with their applicable Movie Scripts of which Script #1, beat out 3,164 other Contenders/Submissions in Mark Andrushko’s Scriptapalooza’s International Screenplay Competition (based in Hollywood) in July of 2010.

Although I had my hopes and heart set on having THE ANTS ready for Christmas, Chanukah & Kwanzaa Gift-Giving for 2011, I see where they are coming from and will abide by their Expertise. Sometimes, as in a case like this, patiANTS is a virtue.

I began 'pulling' from the SHELF toys the gal would like. Low and behold, they bought all 6 of them. The older woman smiled and said: "You really have a knack for this. When will you be back so we can meet up here for another Round?" Needless to say, I was very pleased and happy both. I spread some cheer; made some friends and this opened up an opportunity that I will now share with you all:

OK, I’m not exactly thrilled that only 2 of the 6 (or one-third) Inductees are Women, but I admire the mere Idea of what an Institution of this Stature means to Chicago, as a great Cultural Center that millions call ‘Home’and millions visit annually. Part of that Reason is because the CLHoF emanates, includes and highlights Chicago;

Part of that Reason is that the CLHoF deals with Writing;

Part of that Reason is that Writing is the Basis of Civilization & Communication;

Part of that Reason is that every Man, Woman & Child has a Story-to-tell that can be put into Words so that they, too, someday can be immortalized into a Hall of Fame (wherever they call ‘Home’) -- perhaps THE CHICAGO LITERARY HALL OF FAME that was created and advanced by the Skill, Imagination & Fortitude of DONALD G. This URL contains everything you ever wanted to know about THE CHICAGO LITERARY HALL OF FAME, but was not afraid to ASK. Reading & Writing along with speaking and shopping (OK, 3 out of 4 aren’t bad odds) are the most viable & visible Ways to express ourselves.

COUNTDOWN TO 60 is now in 11 more months! But not to worry. We babyboomers take it all in stride & enjoy THE RIDE. My new friend, PEPPER was keeling over - when I told her I was going 2 B 70 in 10 yrs. & 11 months. As a Job Recruiter - she told me MOST people do not advertise their age as freely as I do since so much AGE DISCRIMINATION is out there...but somehow that don't bother me @ all - OR yet. Here's to aging grace-fully!

With the Passing of ANT APPRECIATION MONTH INTL as of August 31, 2011, there's still plenty of time to watch ANTS before they begin their winter retreat.

Here's a brief Tale about an inquisitive ANT I met about 20 minutes ago that made me stop and think, which I find to be my usual state since AAF: Ants Are Fascinating. See if you don't agree with me - their logic and survival skills are commendable:

The Big Black sidewalk ANTS who have a Latin Name assigned to them (that’s longer than they are or could ever grow into) are goal-oriented. I saw several today, September 1ST, 2011. Upon my last encounter, I took a few crumbs of Tandoori NAAN Garlic Flatbread that I had bought, broke off a few crumbs, small enough that he could grab and take it back to the COLONY for a mid-evening treat. I spread it around his Path as he made his way towards the intersection. But, alas he took one smell and continued on his way – rapidly traversing the sidewalk – hot as it was – having reached a toddling 96 degrees in the shade. Would this ANT worry that the had garlic bread breath as I would? I think that was the least of his daily dilemmas.

Then, the Calorie count appears on this back of this Package. One NAAN (which is an Indian Flatbread) has 260 calories. If any ANT ate a morsel – crumb of this bread, that caloric intake would register in the 0.1 or less percentile. A swarm of 10,000 ANTS could consume one of these delicious and tender delicacies and share the calories. Calories, you must understand, are not in an ANT’s daily diet like they are in ours. No wonder they’ve lived over 130 million years. Sort of makes you stop, look and wonder why, doesn’t it.

Said HOLIDATE® is being staged for Today and marks the last day of this particular HOLIDATE only because August has 31 Days in it. However, don’t let that stop you in your pursuits of knowing more and more about Nature. ANTS are as ANTeresting as can be, not BEE. That’s another Species, Folks.

Now, that it is the last Day of this Month’s Celebration – let’s call that a CelebrANTion, lots of things have been learned and shared about this Inquisitive Creature. There’s lots more in the Field; on the Internet and via the various FB groups that delve into the Study of this most incredulous Creature.

I encourage you all to take the time out to learn about ANTS, Nature and whatever tickles your fancy. Share it with like minded People. That’s what makes life interesting and ANTeresting, both!

My last Tidbit is derived from a Promotional Paper I wrote and had published on February 27TH of this year. Parts state:

The most obvious, of course, stands out boldly while the most un-obvious fades into The Background. Each Body serves an importANT Purpose.

Dear Readers, I am going to pre-emp what I was initially gong to tell you today about ANT APPRECIATION MONTH INTL ©2010 to give you some RAN: Real ANT News from the Expert himself on ANTS, none other than:

DR. JAMES C. TRAGER, Ph.D

who works at the Shaw Nature Reserve - Missouri Botanical Garden and is their Biologist/Naturalist. I’m sure he doesn’t consider his JOB ‘work’ tho…but loves every minute of it!

With all the flooding of and on the Eastern Seaboard of the USA during Hurricane Irene this past Weekend, I began wondering and worrying about what the ANTS do under all this water. I wrote to Doc Trager yesterday via FB here as I’m sure many of you may have thought of this, too.

And what a pleas-ANT surprise! He promptly wrote back with this definitive Answer (ANTS-wer):

“Ants retreat into their nests when it's rainy, and get stuck there during floods. They can endure low oxygen levels in the bubbles of air trapped in their nests (or even in water) for much longer than we can even imagine. Of course, if the water persists for too long, they do die. This is why few ants live in floodplains.”

Which reminds me. Living here in Chicagoland, USA we have a floodplain in Des Plaines, IL (one of the nearby suburbs) that gets flooded out quite regularly. Yet, the people continue to move there and then openly complain when their basements and yards get pools of standing water in them for days on end. What’s the matter with People – Humans? There’s something wrong here with their Reasoning and/or Lack of Common Sense. If ANTS don’t live in a floodplain – why can’t Humans take a clue from them?

MY NEXT QUESTION IS: How do ANTS realize and determine they are ‘building’ a Colony or ANT Hill in or on a Floodplain? Is it something in their DNA? Yes, it may be – just that. I find it so intriguing that Mother Nature equips her Creatures no matter what size they are to cope and survive. And, with the erratical Nature of Weather Patterns these days, it takes some doing to get on by!

I whole-heartedly thank Doc James C. Trager, Ph.D. for his fabulous Exposé here! Now, we all know the Answer to a very import-ANT Question thanks to him!

I’m sure that if you write to Dr. T at Shaw Nature Reserve found online, he’ll write back. If you’re a Teacher, who would be better to have come and talk to your Students about Nature than: DR. TRAGER?

This was written back on February 27, 2011 but still is as applicable then as it is now:

The most misunderstood Creature on The Planet (that’s PLANET, of course) is THE ANT. For those of you who guessed that correct ANTSWER (that’s ‘Answer’ in Humanese), by all means give yourself a Pat (i.e.: pANT) on The Back. Soon, you are to learn a New Perspective about Life, all taken from The APoV: ANTS’ Point of View, because the most written about and observed Creature is THE ANT.

Chronologically, ANTS go back 130,000,000 years, outliving The Dinosaur by 65,000,000 years, even though ANTS are a Smidgen of the Mighty Lizards’ GIGANTIC Size. Man’s History is surely miniscule compared to The ANT’s Past. That Statement must be further clarified as ANT Life registers as a ‘Prehistory’ since Sundials, Clocks, Watches and Timepieces were not invented, yet every Act(ion) was performed in a CONSCIANTIOUS State and timely Manner. How could that Function possibly be? There’s no INFERANTS or inference to BEES in this Case. ANTS are The Topic here and the RELEVANT Answers to any and every Question are easily found Online, in your Backyard and at your Family Picnics. ANTS live ‘local’ (‘locally’ in proper English), but work global(ly). Teamwork is hot-wired into their Brain that has kept THE ANTS center-stage in Nature, acting as Nature’s Farmer in The Realm We call Life. Like Humans, they come in a Variety of lively and lovely Colors, Hues, Shades and SKiN Tones.

Now, that should give you something to think about…
