A new Set of Circumstances have emerged since my younger Brother, Joe Koopersmith (Joel Steven Koopersmith, age 64) died on Monday night, January 6, 2020 in Grants Pass, Oregon, his home circa the Mid-1980s.

As recorded by Me, ASK: Adrienne Sioux Koopersmith,  his older Sister - Resident of Chicago, IL USA.

DUE to the Fact that People have the right to know, this is the 'BackStory' that no one else will know until my Release of those Facts & Evaluation here and now.  I am the only one who has privy to these Facts and can piece them together.  

Because Joey was so well-liked, let his Death stand for something that other People can learn from. That's the least that can come from this horrible Catastrophe. 

Let's begin:

His Death Certificate says Cardiac Arrest, but there's much more to be revealed.  JOEY died of Parental Neglect, Indifference(1) and Ignorance (by and on behalf of our Mother, Betty Friend Koopersmith) combined with  Domestic Violence &  Mental Cruelty as exhibited  by his Wife, Kay Koopersmith who physically abused him (with hammer attacks in their Home).

Defined as  'Bouts of Domestic Violence;' Fear of future Bodily Harm that subsequently led to Mental Strain, Anxiety & Stress  that weakened Joe's Heart thus causing him to suffer a Heart Attack that was aided and abetted  by a too-rich high Cholesterol Diet of being a Meat Eater; no steady Exercise Plan and an early Career of long and strenuous Hours of Physical Labor (as a young Man) who was a Construction Worker circa Age 18-55 (or 60).  Combined with those Events, JOE had wanted a Divorce from his Wife since 1988 who refused to divorce him.  He seemed HAPPY from the Outside being a top Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Merchant, yet he was crying on the Inside.  That is why this Page is so alarming to write and to read.  He has not even been 'grieved' properly yet.

WHEN THOSE RED FLAGS ARE NOT HEEDED:

When Betty Friend Koopersmith learned of Joe's Hammer Attacks via phone calls, she did not tell her SON that this is classic DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (by the Book).**  She kept this a Secret.  Had she told me of Joe's Ordeal, I would have told her to CALL THE GRANTS PASS POLICE at once and furthermore, suggest that  Small Video Cameras be placed and set-up throughout Joe & Kay's Home in Grants Pass, Oregon to record any future Violent Attacks. When one of these Violent Episodes of Kay attacking Joey with the Hammer  happened, it would have been caught-on-tape and his Wife (of 32 years) would have been jailed, evicted from the property and Divorce Proceedings could have begun in which he would have won his case unanimously hands-up.  In this case, any Judge would side with the Man (my abused Brother) in this instance.  

Moral of this Great American Tragedy is:

IF you hear something, say or do something.
IF you see something, say or do  something.
IF you question something strange or weird, say or do  something.

DO not stand-by as all of this leads to an immense Amount of Stress & Distress placed upon the Victim's Body.  Every thing is connected.

If someone calls you and CONFIDES IN YOU, telling you about RED FLAGS that are popping up in a Dysfunctional Relationship, do not be afraid to call THE POLICE. This is what is called:  

SAVING A LIFE.

This, to me, is a very strange Turn of Events re: the Death of my Kid Bro, Joe Koopersmith.  It culminates in my thinking about his last few Months on Earth;  his deteriorating  Household Situation and piecing the Dynamics all together since his Death 15 Days ago.  Now, JOE KOOPERSMITH has become The Poster Boy of  what is called The Repercussions of the Battered Husband Syndrome.

AND, nothing will bring Joey back.  I am putting this Observation & Deduction "OUT THERE" in case you know of someone who is suffering silently.

From this very informative and in-depth Article are 2 very important POINTS you should know in case someone in your Family is suffering and not telling anyone:

THE BOTTOM LINE WAS: 
Joey needed an Intervention.
He needed a Marriage Counselor. 
He needed help with sorting his Home & Married Life out.

He never found any of that although all three (3) were right at his Fingertips.

So, behind the Facade of a long marriage (unhappy at that) and The Facade of a self-made & successful wheeler-dealer in the HarleyDavidson Motorcycle World since age 16-64, Joel S. Koopersmith had no one he could count on with the thousands of People he knew throughout the Decades who could make that CALL-FOR-HELP.  There was no one to help him ESCAPE from a Life of Torment that would end far too soon as it did on the night of January 6, 2020 at the tender age of 64.  Thousands of People for Decades - including People who lived in his Town - his Morning Coffee Clutch Guys...no one stepped up to bat to help him.  And, I have found many of his SO-CALLED FRIENDS knew.  Dirty Little Secrets only lead to an Early Death - a leading Indicator of a PreMature Death in the 21ST Century.  People have to stop and think of WHAT MATTERS MOST.

Regardless of Family & Friends, we all die alone.

IN CLOSING THIS CHAPTER:  I really cannot think of anything sadder than this...

POSTSCRIPT:
**classic DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (by the Book).

I had been a Victim of Domestic Violence via an Alcoholic Boyfriend circa February 28, 1989. I know what the Symptoms are.  The only difference is that by being a Sociology Major (at Washington University in St. Louis), I knew what it was and what to do to save myself.  I had a neighbor that I 'ran to' and I had a wonderful Boss who made sure I did not go home the next night after 'the Attack.'  I also had a Judge who was adamant about putting ALAN 'away' that made me think that this is MUCH MORE SERIOUS than I or the Media thought.  I thank them all  for being there for me.  I'm in grief my Brother didn't...he never made. it.

(1) Indifference is rampant in my Family Tree. It's a Character Defect.  If an Issue is not looked at and examined thoroughly, my Mother & Brother feel it will  somehow correct itself and go away without further Involvement.  The First Case of this warped Thinking is when My Parents, Louie & Betty Koopersmith divorced in 1977.  Every Day throughout that long 14 month ordeal that began in July of 1976, Joe remained indifferent to their Case. He acted as if nothing was happening.  I (on the other hand) was told to go home by Mother's Chicago based Divorce Attorney and care for my Mother since my Father had threatened to kill her.  I was not to leave her side. I did just that. As an obedient child, I did that (giving up an excellent Job) in Advertising to ensure her Safety.  Joe (on the other hand) acted as if nothing was happening.  Joe was extremely indifferent to what was happening to the Family - our Family Dynamic.  The Second Case of this Indifference, of course, is when Betty F. Koopersmith failed to advise Joe to the best of her Ability (evidently because she was ignorant, didn't know or didn't care) that Domestic Violence Cases must be reported to The Police.  What about:  Wielding a Hammer at a person did she NOT get?  All of these Factors aided in the Deterioration of  Joe's Physical Health that culminated in his untimely Death on January 6. I would classify Indifference as one of the Great Deadly Sins of Mankind.  Dr. Phil would agree.

as #January_6_2020 marks the 25TH Year  ABC: Anniversary-Birthday-Celebration of this popular #HOLIDATE that now has been transformed to highlight the following CAMPAIGN called:

#HOLIDATES_AGAINST_HOMELESSNESS.

Inspired by The Fact that EVENTOLOGY (The Literary Genre I created to get 'The Most' out of our Days & Lives on #July_25_1990) turns 30 years old in 2020, it's Time these 'playful' HOLIDATES take more of a serious Role in Our Lives.  

Because #SMITH is the most Common Surname in the USA, this DEMOGRAPHIC can affect alot of GOOD, collectively. GOODWiLL that will help those who need a #HelpingHand.

THAT PLAN:  To raise One Hundred Million Dollars by writing the BIOS of 1 Million SMITHS in order that We can cap #HOMELESSNESS.  The Finished Book - a Who's Who in Smithhood - will be contributed to the SMITHSONiAN INSTITUTION to reflect 21ST Century Pop Culture. That SUM w/B utilized to provide Housing &  Meals & above all else HOPE to those who are suffering.  I was there, I know how it is.

OK:  Once I see if there is Genuine Interest in this Plan,  I w/ then partner w/ an Organization who shares the same Values that I do.  The Meaning of Life means what you can do for others.  NOW,  w/ 2020 at our Doorsteps [in only 21 more Days], I really think this Plan has Merit.  We shall see...

UPON it’s 25TH Year ABC:  Anniversary Birthday Celebration

Thank you for giving me this Opportunity to chat with you and your listeners here on Chicago Broadcasting Network.  At this time of the year you become RENO LOViSONSMITH.  And I'll tell you why!

BUT FIRST I should introduce myself to your Listeners. 

Hi I'm Adrienne Sioux Koopersmith known as  "The  Premier Eventologist in the History of The World, according to Eric Zorn  of The Chicago Tribune in a 2001 Interview  2001 and that was nearly 20 years ago.  

In fact I have created more than 2,500 unique Holidates in 39 different CATEGORIES  since July 25 1990 at 9:45 PM CST, here in Chicago,  The CITY that is a constant source of inspiration to me:

CHICAGO :   The EVENT CAPiTOL OF THE WORLD.

You may be familiar w/  National Smith Day,  2000 Days Before 2000;  HUG A G-I day, LOST PENNY DAY; INTL Skeptics Day , NATL Splurge Day,  Little Black Dress Day;  Pay A Compliment Day & Sew Be it Days,  all coming up later in 2020, the 30TH Year  of my Creation of all these HOLIDATES, feel good, anti-gloom EVENTS -  now numbering 2,500 in 39 different Categories..all to make our WORLD a better, sweeter and kinder place in which to live.

Today is the 28TH Day before 2020 and the 34TH Day before my NAME SAKE EVENT: NATIONAL SMITH DAY.  

As my Last Name is KOOPERSMITH, my GRANDFATHER SRUL KOOPERSMITH told me in 1968 (on his deathbed) that many  of our Relatives dropped either the KOOPER or the SMITH at Ellis Island when they immigrated to the USA from Germany in the early 1900s.  This piqued my interest & also may be very sad to know I may not ever know who some of them are or were?  What were their Struggles?  Did they look like me?

Did you know that Smith is the most popular surname in America?      
Are you a Smith?  
Do you know any Smith's?  

Do you happen to be 1 of my long lost relatives?  Yes, it was decades later, but  I decided to fulfill my Granddad's death bed wish and find them all.  Oh, it was valiant act to do but I am always up for a Challenge.  Yes, I did begin even before the Internet made  Life so much easier for all of us SMITHS.

Well, be advised that January 6 is National Smith Day. All day long.   You can spell SMITH in any number of ways.  With a Y - with an E.   I also include KOOPERSMITHS (spelled with a C or a K), Goldsmiths, Metalsmiths, Nesmiths, Blacksmiths, Coppersmiths...and such derivatives.

On NATIONAL SMITH DAY, every one is an Honorary Smith.  Thanks to Captain John Smith who landed here and had no idea what EVENTOLOGY was all about.  He had no idea... how he would be immortalized in only about 380___ years later.  Now, that's Lasting Power.

So now is the time to figure out how you plan to celebrate NATL SMITH DAY (that HOLIDATE as they are called) here in “Sweet Home Chicago.”

You can celebrate  this HOLIDATE any where in the world as this is really a PLANET OF SMITHS, but if you're listening to Chicago Broadcasting Network, you'll probably want to know a few ways to celebrate National Smith Day officially in Chicago  - It's 25TH Year on January 6, 2020.  And that's a MONDAY so you have the EVENTOLOGY Blessing to start your Celebration the Friday before at 5 PM and continue through the wee hours of Tuesday morning - or before you get caught.   

SERIOUSLY NOW:
After knocking on every door here in The City, I tallied it up that Chicago has an Active Smith Population of  30,000 People.  We need our own Phone Book and Zip Code!

OK, let's start:

1)  Why not send a message to 43rd Ward (Old Town, Gold Coast, Lincoln Park) Alderman Michele Smith and let her know you're thinking about her and how much you enjoy the neighborhood.

2)  Visit the 22 stained glass windows in the Chicago Pedway that are part of the collection of prominent Chicago collectors E.B. and Maureen Smith. This is part of the collection that used to be displayed at Navy Pier.

3)  Go to the Art Institute and seek out some of the sculptures and drawings of artist David Rowland Smith you won't be disappointed.

4)  Visit either of the two Smith Parks in Chicago - - Joseph Higgins Smith Park on Grand Avenue or Wendell Smith Park at  99th and Princeton on the Southside.

5)  How about seeing if you can volunteer or send a treat to the residents of Smith Village - A Senior Living Community at 2320 West 113th Place telling them its National Smith Day.  They just might GET IT!

6)  Meet a friend for dinner at Smith  & Wollensky  Steakhouse at Marina Towers on the Chicago River;

7)  try "The Smith" one of Chicago's newest trendy eateries in the west loop near Kinzie and Clark;

8)  get a new hairdo at Smith and Davis listed as one of the top 100 Salons in America by Elle Magazine.

As the Creator of Natl Smith Day (C)1995, said Holidate (1 of my top 3 of 2500 EVENTS) turns 25 years old on January 6, 202.  T celebrate its Milestone Anniversay, I am creating the Ultimate BOOK OF SMIHTS (C)1995 that will contain 1,000,000 Biographies (one Page in Length) with a Picture of any, every and all SMITHS.  1 individual SMITH PER PAGE from across the WORLD:  Planet Smith (that is) who wish to tell us what he/she does; feels; a story about their Life - Inspirations/ Hopes and Dreams.  An extended WHO's WHO in Smithood. I am surmising OUR BOOK will probably become the Greatest SMITH-A-LOG DIALOG - a Compilation touching upon The Merge between Literature & Genealogy.  I'm constructing its Acronym that will be (something like):

SMITH MASTERS IN TIMELY HISTORY.

As this Page is being tped, the Calendar tells me it's December 1, 2019 and 'BABY, it's cold outside!"  Too many People are homeless and down on their Luck with no one to help them.  I was "HOMELESS" in 2013 and again in 2017 due to Gentrification here in Chicago. It so sucks!  The Monies (One Hundred Million Dollars can help out ALOT) gathered here will be equally divided up per States (50 in the USA) and used to secure a warm, dry and safe Shelter for these People-in-Need and at risk.  And, yes, there will be room for your BELOVED FAMILY PETS. Later, the Original Book - a WHO's WHO IN THE SMITH FAMILY TREE will be presented as a CONTRIBUTION - a Gift to the Smithsonian Institution, which seems like the PERFECT PLACE for this Smith Publication to call its HOME.

A FOLLOW UP THOUGHT struck me on:

My Basic Theory is that we are all born homeless.  We don't know if that woman who gave birth to us is going to keep up or get tired of us in a few days; abandon us & leave us out in the Street - on a CURB - somewhere in our diapers (if that); or on a Pile of Blankets in front of a Church Sanctuary's Doorway.  We also don't know if this Family is going to be nice to us; or if they are evil and will make LIFE  absolutely miserable so that We'd actually be much better off being homeless.  That's why I'm launching this EVOLUTIONARY STEP of NATIONAL SMITH DAY (C)1995 in order that others can jump in and assist, especially so since the traditional Holidays of Giving and Generosity coincide with MY Natl Smith Day.  

This might be pure Coincidence or the Finger of The Lord suggesting this Plan altho the Holidate is historically significant.  Being the Birth Day of Captain John Smith, the First Smith ever to set foot - land here in America - in the Colonies born 439 years ago come January 6, 2020.    

John Smith (baptized. 6 January 1580 – 21 June 1631) was an English soldier, explorer, colonial governor, Admiral of New England, and author. He played an important role in the establishment of the colony at Jamestown, Virginia, the first permanent English settlement in America in the early 17th century.

WITH that being said:  Technically, The Pilgrims were homeless themselves when they landed in the  Mayflower that  arrived in New England on November 11, 1620 after a voyage of 66 days.  There were no Hilton Hotels or Bed & Breakfasts in which they could be a guest.

There was Homelessness when I was a Kid learning about Life,  circa 1952-1972.  That was 60+ years ago and there still is.  Time to abolish this.  Heck, We landed MAN on the Moon Decades ago:  you'd think We could erase this Plight once and for all of us.

THEREFORE, as of December 2, 2019, I have launched a new ARM of EVENTOLOGY called:

As for ME during 2020,  I need to establish a BRICK & MORTAR, INSTITUTE OF EVENTOLOGY that will house my 4 ROOMS of EVENTOLOGY MEMOiRS &  WRITINGS - a compilaton of 2500+ EVENTS.  Therefore, I am seeking Sponsors, Investors, Philanthropists and Angel Investors who see the usefulness in these HOLIDATES and what I've done the last 30 years in creating this Literary Genre called EVENTOLOGY.  But wait, it doesn't stop there!

CALi has an intense Internet Following.  This CALENDAR is more of a LOVE LETTER TO A CAT - MY CAT -- tender and sweet to a CAT that melts my Heart and everyone that she sees and meets in our Building.
