An AFSEE Moment: Ageless-In-Chicago. Turning 80. The Ultimate Present
He had said: "I'm going to trade you in for two 20's."
Crude Comments like that are something that are never forgotten, but they can be modified or ADRIENNE-ized as I like to call it to ease the pain and find some semblance of Humor. Comedy is all within the Flip of a Coin.
Therefore, when I emailed Mother earlier this morning, I asked (which are my G-d Given Initials anyway and the ones she gave me 56 years ago):
"Mom, did you get 2 40's or 4 20 year olds?"
She would know exactly what I meant!
Now, I sent her that note about 20 minutes ago. For her age, she is extremely cool. She has been online for 10 years now, always keeping up with modern technology, fashion and health.
The Reason I've not heard from her is that she is probably sitting there "busting a gut" as that comment was so funny. Or...it may very well be 'the OR...' Let's hope so!
REVERSING THE TABLE: Oh, how do I plan on celebrating my 80TH Birthday which will be happening in 24 more years -- circa August 9, 2032...
By 4 20's, of course. And they'll be born (of course - if I am doing the MATH WRITE) in 2012.

Koopersmith's Great American Warm-Up #14: 2 Weeks and counting.
As of today, there are only 2 weeks until my GREAT AMERICAN WARM-UP ©1995, one of more popular HOLIDATES takes place, clear across America for those who truly CARE. For those who are unaware of its purpose, it's very simple because Simplicity is Best and easier to carry out.
PURPOSE: Before the Winter officially sets in on December 21, take the time to clean-out your Closets, Drawers, Attics, Basements, Bureaus and under-the-bed (too) for (m)any Items you are no longer wearing. Folks, that means lifting items-off-Floors and reaching high-up on dusty Shelves. This Gear can range from coats to jackets to sweaters to socks to leg warmers to boots to scarves to hats to caps to insulated vests to long underwear.
THE EVENTOLOGICAL EXPLANATION BY ASK:
This Weekend (known as a Floating Holidate in (the Art & Act of) Eventology) is marked as the Hottest Month (in the Northern Hemisphere) - particularly the USA, even though Temperatures many times do not rise above 40 degrees. In accordance with my Meteorologic Logic, although Global Warming is at the other End of the Spectrum, November (also spelled as: NovemBURR) signals the beginning of shorter Days, a looming and long Cold Winter Season, Isolation and dismal days, where Life is rough & brutal. Many People become depressed because of the lack of sun and the aforementioned symptoms of what Winter symbolizes. Not everyone is a Snow-Bunny, Skier or Winter Advocate. But all this can be changed and The Change will have outstanding Benefits for all those who participate.
CHANGING PLACES NOW: THE 'IF' SYNDROME
However, it is much sadder IF you're cold during the Winter.
IF you are Homeless and do not have the proper clothing.
IF you are Poor and cannot afford a Winter Wear & Garb (ie: the proper Attire). Albeit, this does not evaluate the Consequences of GW: Global Warming although it does make a signficant change in our Climate. We are merely planning on keeping Others warm throughout The Winter Months in your Region.

Columbus Day: A very Far Cry from Life On Mars...WWCS: What Would Columbus Say?
Back then, the Ocean indeed was bluer than it is now. Oil spills and other man-made disturbances were virtually non-existent. If things did happen, they weren't recorded till after the onslaught of Gutenberg's Printing Press circa 1555 - a short time thereafter.
Sailing (from Genoa, Italy to The Americas) was a bit more treacherous as the Modern Devices of coursing the Weather was not activated. Food Preservation was not up to parr; Refrigeration had of yet to be invented. Then you had those sinistry Pirates (Hoodlums of the High Seas) who were main-streaming the ocean-ways as well in search of Loot & Bounty. It may have been safer to be boat-side than on-land as terrible outbreaks of Disease -- like the Black Death - or Black Plague was pandemic at that time, killing some 75,000,000 People. This is between 30-60% of Europe's Population. It would not have done you any good in the Old World if you were a foreigners, beggars or leper - as these were the first ones to be persecuted during the time of the Black Plague. It was like a Modern Day (1600-1700) Witch Hunt if we are to label their Situation.
Was Columbus a Hero or merely someone trying to save their skin from the unsavory Diseases as Bubonic Plague and Viruses that terrorized his unhealthy domain? No matter how Chris is remembered, he is immortalized and the Story has a happy Ending: 2008 is here. Like Columbus, We are Survivors.
Moreover, if it wasn't for those Historical Greats beating The Odds and setting their Sights on a new Course of Adventure, you would not be here reading this Blog. I would not be sitting here typing it up.
Columbus does deserve a Day...
And, so do cunning Merchandisers who see this as a Way to make $ from a flailing Economy. From Friday through Monday, massive Sales are underway commemorating Columbus Day. And to follow suit with Wikipedia:
"The uncertainty of daily survival created a general mood of morbidity, influencing people to 'live for the moment.'"
Amen. Some things never change. A case in point. Therefore, it's necessary to shop till you drop, because We don't know when the other shoe will fall, much like We had following the 9-11 Incident.
2008 minus 1492 is calculated as the Hard Math of 516 Years...a long time in which to delve into the Mysteries of Life in Columbus' Day. Not much is known about The Man himself, but his Legacy is intertwined with High Adventures on the Open Seas. His biggest Triumphs may be all the Cities named after him, in his Honor and, of course, the October Event - COLUMBUS Day that happens every year, most often with floats, parades and governmental offices being closed.
2008 marks the 516TH Columbus Day Celebratory Holiday here in The States when he arrived in America aboard the 3 Ships that we are all taught to memorize in Grade School: The Nina - the Pinta and the Santa Maria. According to Wikipedia, my online Source for Filling-In-The-Blanks (of my Memory from Grade School History Courses):

Life On Mars...Restoring Faith in my TV Set.
Like millions, there were a few standards that stood out in my time:
#1: That was my hey-day. Although I claim 'each' Day as my 'Hey-Day,' 1973 was the year I became legal, of legal age: 21. That was momentous to we BabyBoomers.
#2: The Theme was incredibly clever. The Story Line about losing a loved one and thinking if only a few elements were changed, that that person could be 'retrieved' and returned to us has undoubtedly occurred to all of us...at some point in our Lifetime. It's just part of our IF ONLY Syndrome that we humans seem to suffer. After all, we are Spirits in Human Format for the time being.
#3: The Language of that other Era (before High Tech took over our Lives) was indisputably of a different Time and Place. I understood it. I laughed and new exactly what they were 'talking about.'
#4: The immense amount of Research that went into each Scene, Plot and Line that differentiated 1973 from 2008 was to be applauded.
#5: The shocking Conclusion is that for a Civilization (that acts uncivilized by the Wars it wages and the disgusting Acts we place our loved ones through...just listen to the nightly news -reels), we have indeed come a Long Ways.
The Topic Line of #5 has always intrigued me since Childhood. And, if you have moment I will tell you why. I could never understand how Cave Man lived in Caves without a refrigerator, indoor plumbing and apple pie to name only a few. I am sure you got my Drift. As I got older, matured and decided Comics and Cartoon Art 'said it all,' I developed a Cartoon Character in 1990 called:

that thru a Series of One-Line Zingers called: CAVE MAN NEVER-isms ® told us the Differences between living in Prehistoria compared to Living Life in Contemporanea. Granted this was the early 1990s before many of us got our First Computer. My first Computer was plugged in on November 1, 1994. I was online and emailable by November 19, 1995 at 3:53 PM...a date I'll never forget. Only because I had an ink-ling that Technology and not standing in line at the Post Office would certainly expedite my Life.
However, Cave Man had a Reign of a few Years in which people were intrigued by the Theory of Living Simpler and more simply. After all,
CAVE MAN NEVER had a toilet;
CAVE MAN NEVER had white-out;
CAVE MAN NEVER had a phone; let alone a cell phone;
CAVE MAN NEVER had marketable job skills...
CAVE MAN NEVER had too darn much…on a larger Scale. And, of course, CAVE MAN NEVER had a Scale (CAVE WOMAN DID!).
Needless to say, there were tens of thousands of more things (material objects - stuff and things to file or store) that CAVE MAN NEVER possessed. Yet he got along. He lived. He survived. Otherwise, we would not be here. As Technology picked up at faster speeds, it was impossible to keep track of all these One Liners. The Humorous Side of the CMN Theory, Strip and Series had done its Part;
it made its Point;
it taught us to Slow Down; and
it made us appreciate what We had and have in the NOW Moment.
Then along came, LIFE ON MARS and it verified everything I ever thought about The Concept of (Fleeting) Time, Invention, Humanity and how only One TV Program can restore Faith and Loyalty into the Halls of TV Clamour & Glamour. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the Shows. I may even buy the Book and join its Fan Club for the latest Updates.
AS A CREATIF MYSELF: During my Creative Course with CAVE MAN in the early 1990s, I did plot Blocks of Time in(to) 50 year Segments, seeing how Man had evolved from the Limestone Caves to the Glass Condos we now inhabit.
Even thinking about Life in 1950 compared to Life in 1900 to Life in 1850 will educate as well as make you think of how far we've progressed. Then, take a look at our Amish Neighbors...Perspective is what it is all about...no matter what year we're experiencing. Living in the Past can be a gas. Having the Chance to experience it all -- like a giant Smorgasbord is what I personally prefer.
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM: I may have changed the Title a bit though since 'MARS' (as a term) reminds many Americans of John Grey's Book: Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus, and that makes us think of the differences between the Sexes.
And, for the Millions upon Millions of us who will admit to LIVING THROUGH and SURVIVING 1973 (which could be a highly marketable T-Shirt in and of itself), We have to admit that that YEAR was more than a Battle of The Sexes - it was strewn in Politics, Economics and a Life that was entirely different from even 20 years prior.
Initially, I thought LIFE ON MARS was a Science Movie because The Planet has been in the forefront of The News the last few years.
However, for the most Part, remembering the Good Old Days (outside of Mayberry RFD with Ron Howard as Opie, Andy, Aunt Bee & Barney Fife) (especially in this tumultuous global economy where laughs don’t come too often now) gives us REASON TO BELIEVE that anything is possible.
It doesn’t get much better than that…

10-9-8: The Official Countdown to ASK's Pet Peeves Month: October 10 - November 10, 2008

because the Weather is changing. Many people in these Parts become complainers as the Weather - besides the Defects of Global Warming - for those who DO believe in its dire Consequences take AIM at how much snow will fall; how far the temperatures will drop and how many snow days will school officials call so that parents have to entertain their Kids while being at home. Bring on the Pet Peeves. The Time is ripe. We all have them.
Therefore, to jumpstart the PET PEEVE ROLL, I've decided to air mine. None (I should warn you) are political in nature since this is the Wind-Down of the Political Campaign in the USA and the start-up of a new Democracy, but Three (3) Pointers are peeving the Day Light and Moonlight out of me, 24/7. Those are:
PET PEEVE 1:
NBC TV Reporters have a terrible habit to break. When introduced by an in-station anchor, they begin their report by saying: "Well, Good Morning." Mr. Kerry Sanders who was stationed in Orlando, Florida said this just this morning. Kim Vadis (who is otherwise a sensational and thorough Reporter based in Chicago) has this Tendency upon each and every story that she opens with. Since Kim is a night owl - she gets most of the 'dreaded' stories to cover. A simple 'Good Morning' would suffice from both. There may be others that I haven't seen yet. Why they have to interject: WELL into a Greeting...is 'well' -- quite unclear to me.
AFTER-THOUGHT: There are NO wells about it. Morning is morning...only Artesians are concerned with well, not your viewers who want a concise story with no added 'throw-off' words'.
PET PEEVE 2):
Whether you're a Celebrant of Christmas or not; whether you plan on spending a large or decent amount of money on your 2008 Christmas Gifts or not (due to hard eco-times), there is no good reason except GREED why Retailers (at all levels) have their Christmas Items in the Stores in Mid-September. No real Christmas Spirit exists anymore...as it was in the 1800s when there was really nothing more to fear than Fear itself. It's been gone for some time. So, to squeeze out another nickel from a suffering Family is the most horrific Sale Tactic I have seen yet. With so many families losing their homes to foreclosures, where is the sympathy that should be extended to them? This VO: Valued Opinion is not to take into consideration all the Gifts that are returned after the Holiday beginning on December 26 known as Box Day (which is, by the way, not one of my Eventological Holidates). That, again is yet another 'facet' of PET PEEVE 2.
PET PEEVE 3:
Nebraska has a Safe Haven Law for Children who are in Crisis. Just this Week, entire Families are being dumped in The State with no Prosecution being extended towards their Parents. Although the reports say this is primarily enacted for Infants by teen mothers who cannot care for them. My Opinion (from a non-parent angle) is that this Law is absolutely terrific. Every State should have and uphold this Sanction. For stressed-out parents who have 'no other way out,' it is the best for the Abandoned Child. The Bottom Line has always been:
Some People should be parents.
Some people should not be parents.
Difficult situations happen that cannot be ironed out. For those who should not be Parents, they may find this out too late. Think of this Situation this way:
If the Opening News Story for the day opened with a title as:
"Distrought Father went BULLET-istic and wiped out his entire Family and took the Life of his Sleeping Wife (as well),
would We (as a community, block or neighborhood) not feel alot worse? Would We have felt as neighbors that We should have seen what was happening behind closed doors in their household? Most neighbors do feel this way.
Where there is Life, there is always a safe, peaceful and warm place for these Children to go. Let's not forget: The only reason a Child was born (in many sad instances) was that it was a Night of Drunken Sex. Nine Months later, there is an added Burden born into the World that sometimes, just cannot be handled by an infantile 'Parent' who is nearly as young as that newborn Babe. That's what the Media has called:
BABIES HAVING BABIES.
That Entity is called a CHILD. Child Abuse is something else. I prefer this new kind of anti-DUMPSTER Love to be enacted in each State of the Union. Instead of finding the Body of a Child (or Teen) even in a Dumpster, take him/her/them to a Safe Haven. It's probably the most sane act Family Welfare can do for those so afflicted.

ADRIENNE was able to single herself out as an ‘Unconventional Writer,’ spotlighting her admirable Causes. Reflecting back on the Years from 1952-1990, ASK realized that Life is merely the Composition of Series of Events that continually occur. These Occurrences may be good, bad or neutral. The stark Realization is that We are all living on Borrowed Time and if We don’t use the Time We do have at our Disposal, it’s a Crying Shame that ’The Most’ is not accomplished each and every Day. These instrumental and incremental Standards are applied to The Development of each HOLIDATE (all 1,500) when thoroughly explaining ‘How To Properly Celebrate A HOLIDATE ®.’
At this Key Moment, ADRIENNE then wanted to share these Experiences with others. Knowing DNA and ‘the Future’ are Two Commonalities Humans share on a Daily Basis, it is consequential to live in and for The Day. Also proven invaluable is her Ability to bike for an Hour every Day.
