Chicago, IL USA:
The following conversation was CoF: Caught on Facebook between my friend, CASEY KERCHNER (who I have known since the 1960s) and myself discussing the merits of this event...one that may have been invented too late in the 'food chain.' It follows:
Casey Kerchner: "Friday, May 20th, is Endangered Species Day! As designated by the U.S. Senate, every year on the 3rd Friday in May is Endangered Species Day. This day helps people of all ages to learn about our country’s threatened wildlife and plants.Surely you know someone who is on the endangered Species List and is on the Verge of Becoming Extinct."
ASK’s COMMENT:
Try Mankind for starters... U don't have to go to a nature sanctuary or forest to see how Species are withering away. However, folks, it's Friday - the start of the weekend, so we might as well try to stay away from the Morbid Side of Life for at least 48 more hours (at least). I attended GREENFEST last weekend and 1 of the seminar speakers stated that 80,000 species disappear every yr. I felt that was way too high a stat...but haven't checked it yet. However, UR right Casey -- we should all learn more about Extinction/Endangered & Threatened Species. That's why I wrote: SKiN: Sacred Kinship in Nature - How 10 Beloved Plush Toys Redefine Race (C)2009 as it features 5 of the 10 (characters) who are on the Endangered Species list. It's extremely sad. I feel the damage has already been done. After all when we were in school together we had 4 specific seasons and now it's down to 2. Those being COLD & HEAT with the worst tornados & hurricanes striking that completely knock out entire communities. That's Extinction on a diff. level. Then, IF UR coasting along on your bike and some distracted driver zooms into your zone, well there's ExTinctioN of the cruellest kind. For city dwellers as myself: Just getting thru a day is hard enuf! And on that note - we all should head OUT right now and help a Platypus in need.
