ASK's comm-ANT-ary on Day #17of: ANT APPRECIATION MONTH INTERNATIONAL ©2010

Wednesday, August 17, 2011 is Day 17 of the Second Global Celebration of:

ANT APPRECIATION MONTH INTERNATIONAL©2010

Said HOLIDATE® is being staged for Today & the Remainder of August only because ANTS are as ANTeresting as can be, not BEE. That’s another Species, Folks.

I am always inquisitive because there is so much to learn about ANTS. Even if you are not an ANT Expert or Myrmecologist as they are called or Entomologist, there’s a plethora of facts you can find – even on line – that will solve those questions for you – even if you don’t insert the question mark.

For today, I decided I wanted to know WHO is the Fiercest ANT of them all so I googled that and found just that at:

https://www.msu.edu/~urquhart/tour/odont.html

The ANT in question is the Trap-jaw Ant of the Odontomachus species.

Dr.Gerald Urquhartreports that: “These are some of the fiercest ANTS in the tropical forest, measuring 3/4 of an inch (2 cm). Their Sting packs a wallop, and their ‘cousin species’ is called a bullet ant because its sting hurts so much. Trap-jaw ants have huge jaws, called mandibles. These jaws will close quickly if touched, and the can hurt small insects and other animals. For humans, the sting is the biggest problem.”

If you wish to learn more from Dr. G., he can be contacted directly at:

Therefore, Folks, for today, stay away from the Odontomachus species.

Cheers,
