National Splurge Day’s The Daily Splurge #108 for Monday, October 6, 2014
directs us towards Contemplation. That’s Contemplation, not Contempt,
although that might be a
likely Word to use for this historical Fact that is:
On Thursday, October 6, 1949 (65 years ago),
Iva Toguri D’Aquino (also known as: Tokyo
Rose, the pro-Japanese Wartime Broadcaster) was convicted of Treason and
sentenced to 10 years in prison with a $10,000 Fine. In those earlier days, $10,000 went a longer
ways – further than it does today.
Imagine if Iva had received that Money instead to spend for NATIONAL
SPLURGE DAY, had NATIONAL SPLURGE DAY been around back then. Considering I was not born till Saturday August
9, 1952 and I didn’t create NSD till 1994, that would have been immaterial to
the Case as those Legal Beagles would tell us.
However,
Check out: http://www.dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm
Only
because: A Dollar just ain't what it used to be.
DollarTimes.com’s Inflation
Calculator tells its Readers & Visitors the relative buying power of a Buck
in the USA between any 2 years from 1914-2014.
By clicking in the designated years, we find that:
$1.00 in 1949 had
the same buying power as $9.67 in 2014.
Annual inflation
over this period was 3.55%.
Therefore, a
Dollar saved is a Dollar earned and Splurging back in the mid-1900s (before
Fast Food Chains, High Technology & all things robotized) kicked in covers
a vast Spectrum of Splurge that is interesting to ponder and wonder about.

TO SEND KUDOS: You may contact
this amazing Website at: http://www.dollartimes.com/contact.htm
I firmly
believe a Website as this will encourage Children to be interested in Economy
and Math, as it helps to train them at an early age as to what is going on and
how numbers play a great role in our lives.
My other favorite Website is: www.timeanddate.com
which adds character and a daily charm to writers when 'dating' their
Pieces.
