Chicago, IL USA:
While writing SKiN ©2009 (that began on January 29, 2009 through April 30, 2009), I needed Feedback on the way it was proceeding. Positive Reinforcement and pats on the back; scratches behind my Ears, if I was a pooch is what this form of Gratifification would be called.
Therefore, I solicited the Help of 3 Friends:
Jessica
Gary &
Lowell
who had never read any of my Writings before to see what they thought and to register their Reaction. This processs happened at the end of March. Their Reactions were:
Jessica: Great Plot.
Gary: Eloquent Writing.
Lowell: Interesting Topic.
These Takes allowed me to continue writing The Plot and to add to the Word Count. Outside Public Opinion is necessary in an Opus like this, not only from 'The General Public' but from Fellow Artists and Professionals as Author/Former Literary Agent and Concert Pianst Lenny Cavallaro (a Friend of Mine) from Boston. Lenny seriously suggested I take the Theme of:
Mixed Signals and What Matters
and extend it to either 35,000-50,000 Words making it into a Novella.
Evidently, he believed a Novella would 'sell' easier than a book with less wordage.
Only Time would give me that Opportunity to E-X-P-A-N-D it and became the Reason why I tacked on another Month -- the Month of April -- in which to make those Additions.
I have often wondered when a Painter knows when he realizes his Piece is finished; when it is complete and if it is of Masterpiece Quality (yet). Maybe it's just a gut feeling we artists and authorly types have that signals to us to step and realize that:
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
(a l r e a d y)
Therefore, working and writing every Day and proof-reading and revising every Night, after 3 full and exciting Months, SKiN grew from One Word:
SKiN
that was my Initial Thought to over 41,000 Words! Now, that's definitely the Way to spend a Cold and Icy Winter...one of the coldest on Chicago Meterological Records...indoors and hard-at-work on a Manuscript that poignantly and cleverly 'scripts' out what it means to be Human in the SKiN you are in.
Won't you please check back Tomorrow for more Insights (or should We say: skINSIGHTS?) into the Essence of SKiN.
