Everything you ever wanted to ask ASK about SKiN: The Book & Script. #16

Chicago, IL USA:

I spoke to Dee today as I did my volunteer work at the local shelter. She told me she had been an exotic dancer in the 1970s; was homeless and was now pulling herself together. Being from the same era, she opened up to me and our conversation heightened. A grandma of 2 darling kids living in the 'Deep South' her Daughter whose father was of German White Extract would always try to "pass herself off as White." She did not say this sarcastically, but more matter-of-factly. Her skin tone would change -- darker during the summer. "That's when she tried to blend in with Puerto Ricans," Dee stated.

My conversation of earlier this Week with Shaun about 'White Privilege' came to mind. I told Dee about Brian Harris who appeared on the Mike & Maty Talk Show circa 1997 whose

FRIENDSHIP SEES NO COLOR

Pen Pal Writer's Club made international news. She smiled and wanted more information on him, since it's People like Brian who make a world of difference.

Dee was happy where she was in the world. She came through the Storm, in tact and now able to give her experiences to her Grandkids, proud of the SKiN she is in. Many of her comments reminded me of parts of:

the Manuscript/Book and Movie Script I penned in 2009. Everyone has a story and blessings to tell, no matter what tone you happen to be in.

CLOSING: Please stay tuned for another Segment of defining SKiN ©2009 tomorrow, which will be a Month-long Blog Series of KOOPERSMITHin'® celebrating the First Year Anniversary of the Composition of this Book and Movie Script.

SKiN ©2009: The Script, The Book & The Odyssey: The May 9, 2009 Segment

Chicago, IL USA:

What's most thrilling to see is an Individual or a committed Group who has your very same Goals in mind. This happened to me as I was on the #213 Pace Bus riding north to a Suburban Library to do my Saturday Research and Marketing Strategies for SKiN. A Billboard (in the bus that was sponsored by Allstate, The Insurance People and The YWCA) had united for a Campaign to:

Eliminate Racism

which runs parallel to what my Script & Book, SKiN ©2009 aims to do. Its Wording (which will be repeated here verbatim in order to advance and promote their Goals) stated:

“Until We face this for ourselves, We will go on satisfied with simple Answers, We will find ourselves confusing Racial Prejudice, Racial Discrimination and Racism.”

This is Dr. Dorothy L Height’s Quote. The Poster Graphic itself was very effective. Listed vertically down the Page were the Words:

Name:

Age:

Gender:

Race: Human.

No Name was filled in. No Age was filled in. No Gender was filled in because it really didn’t matter. What mattered (which is One of the 2 Themes of SKiN) is that We are all Members of the Human Race, plain and simple.

It didn’t matter what the Person’s Name, Age or Gender was (is or will be). The Poster’s Concept foretold that We are all Members of the Human Race. That was where its true effectiveness lies. Their Stance was to 'unlearn Racism' which is very much what young Brian Harris (based in California) did in 1997 with his Friendship Sees No Color Pen-Pal Campaign.

SKiN (on the other hand and you are in ‘good hands’ with Allstate, as their Motto goes) tends to show how Humans have radically and ‘racially’ changed the World by having Ten Characters explain it to ‘The Readers’ and how this affects daily life and the choices we make (or don’t make due to Racism).

The Allstate & YWCA Poster urges us (Humanity-at-large) to ‘Take your first Steps to unlearn Racist Behavior by downloading their Anti-Racism Toolkit at:

ywcalakecounty.org/endracism

ywcalakecounty.org/espanol

http://www.ywca.org/site/pp.asp?c=6dKIIWNtEnG&b=322289

By checking out their Website whose Foundation is in Waukegan, Illinois, I found that:

“As a company with a diverse population of employees, agents and customers, Allstate embraces Diversity in everything they do…”

Furthermore: The 93RD General Assembly of the State of Illinois declared April 30 as YWCA Day Of Commitment to Eliminate Racism in Lake County.”

My Comment: But as We all certainly know, Racism cannot be eliminated in One Day. It is a festering Cancer that has infected Mankind and must be worked on each Day and every Night. Allstate and The YWCA are to be commended and applauded for their Valiant Efforts in bringing Racism to light and for putting a Website up and Commemorative Day to declare their Intentions. Racism’s End begins with Promotions and Observations of this variety.
