FAUX FUR FRIDAY #9 - February's Finale...

Chicago, IL USA. It is nice to see so many people participating in FAUX FUR FRIDAYS here in Chicagoland. Wherever I go...I see people (men, women and children) wearing a variety of Patterns, Colors and Textiles of FAUX FUR. What I find especially endearing are those that take FAUX FUR to the Limits - or beyond as:

The Homeless Man with a laptop computer sitting on the Howard Red Line Train sitting and typing away. The Cover of his Laptop was covered in Faux Fur. When I asked him about it - he said it also served as his pillow at night. He didn't realize that the heat of the PC would be inhibited by the Faux Fur. Even in his humble State, he still wanted to 'dress up' his Computer. Creativity knows no Borders.

Gloves have to be given a HAND. There are more Leopard Print Gloves being worn by Chicago Women this year than ever before. The Pattern seems to match almost everything -- except an Irish Plaid, but then in cold Chicago Winters, it doesn't matter what you wear as long as you can keep warm. Keeping in Style with Faux Fur is just a reminder that some Prints never go out of style...no matter how low the Temperatures drop.

ASK's PREDICTION: With chilly March Winds blowing in like a Lion in a few days, Faux Fur will be with us for a spell...That's a Fashion Statement that will outlast the Best of Us...

Intl Year of Astronomy: 2009...400 years in The Making...

Chicago, IL USA:

Everybody wants to be a Star, but in reality, We all are. There were Stars so many years ago before White-Out, iPods and the invention of the Phone, it’s nice to look back and see how far We’ve come.

And on that note and opening, I would like to inform you (as you probably already know) 2009 marks the 400TH Anniversary of the Telescope...and Galileo was the Personality who set the pace for us to become as ‘Stellar’ as We are.

FURTHERMORE: Hailing from Illinois, it is a proud year here as we are celebrating the 200th Birthday Celebration of our 16TH President, Mr. Abraham Lincoln who lived and worked here before he journeyed to Washington, DC. The same Stars that shown down on Honest Abe, as it did on Galileo still brighten up our Nights. There’s nothing more glorious than stepping outside on a moonlit night and seeing the STARS.

Since Mrs. Obama is making the White House ‘The People’s House,’ people (of all ages) from across our World may like to come in for a week-long Celebration of this Historical as well as Scientific Event. There is a Global Celebration happening April 2-5 already. By having the White House participate in this once-in-a-lifetime Event – by perhaps inviting famous Astronomers coming in to talk to THE PEOPLE as well as hosting Science Fair Exhibits that deal with Astronomy – a great time could be had by all. To further the process, essays could be written by Students attending that would be made into a book -- or placed online so the Event would be immortalized.

Because 2009 is earmarked as:

IYA is the International Year of Astronomy

this definitely is a Concept that has the Backing of so many Enthusiasts, whether they are professionals – amateurs – young or old. We all live under the same star-studded skies that we shared with our Ancestors and that will be shining down brightly in the Millenniums ahead. This Event could change the Course of many People seeing a Career in Astronomy for starters alone.

And with this emailed Note, I am hoping that THE WHITE HOUSE will hold this Event (April 2-5 which is the Time many organizations are kicking off The Event) that has set The Pace of our Understanding with the Universe and what lies behind our Earthly Planet called ‘Home.’

FAUX FUR FRIDAY #8 introduces: FEM: FAUX FUR EYELET MATERIAL

Chicago, IL USA: The colder it gets in Illinois, the more FAUX FUR Outfits are being purchased. This is the General Tendency of so many Women who are now used to dressing up in Layers. Even as the weather improves, the Prints and Patterns in FAUX FUR with its racy stripes, rosetets and combos, never go out of style. After all, Cheetahs, Jaguars and Oscelots wear these furs years round and they've been on the planet for (at least) 25 million years, eco-wise. FAUX FUR does magically set the Mood and Tone of looking dressed up while feeling 'at ease' in any room or in any given situation -- whether it's the boardroom or the bedroom.

And with that in mind, although Spring is just a month away, today to celebrate FAUX FUR FRIDAY, on my Drawing Board at STUDIO 1437 is my latest Garment Design...the combination of Spring Eyelet with Leopard Print. Within each Animal Rosette (the Spot or Dot of The Leopard) I have created an EYELET -- with carefully placed black lace stitching. It's asymmetrical, of course, and gives the Illusion of a fancy Shirt-Dress that can be worn 'as is' or with a ruby red body suit underneath -- for more of a Streamlined Apearance. Is it pretty enough to wear to the FAUX FURBALL on December 25TH...

It certainly is...and will make a Fashion Statement year round, no matter what the 'Holes' in the Economy say.

Coraline on Valentine's Day Weekend: The Best in 3D Footage.

Chicago, IL USA:

Coraline definitely was a great Valentine's Day Present - having just seen the FLICK on Sunday, February 15TH.

CUTTING TO THE CHASE: My Date and I were most impressed with:

the 3-D Footage;

the detail on the character's faces;

the cat's voice;

the colors of the haunted mansion; and

the juxtapositions of the 2 different Realms.

At one point, the Storyline about appreciating your Parents for their Basic Good tugged at my heart, but CORALINE was more of an Action Adventure and a thrill to see how grotesquely decaying the 'Other Mother' had become.

Usually 'young gal characters' as Coraline have STARS in their eyes, there was no overt symbolism why buttons were used for Eyes, but that's OK: That's how the story was written.

Surprisingly, that night or since, I did not have any Nightmares over any of the Plots, perhaps because it was Animation and not 'real' People. All in all, CORALINE, undoubtedly, will go down in Film History as a top 3-D Movie, breath-taking as it was.

I didn't particularly identify with any of the Characters (as I had with Toto in The Wizard of Oz and the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Blunderland), but I enjoyed (on this Sunday Afternoon) the 3-D Effect - only showing that TEAMWORK & TALENT works each and every time.

The Poster in the lobby of the Cinema was confusing as We thought the Film was directed by TIM BURTON...since it said from the Director of NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS(1993) and it did appear as his tell-tale Characters.

MY UNWARRANTED PREDICTION: By late October of 2009 in time for Halloween, I'm sure the next BUNCH OF BABIES BORN will be named 'Coraline.'

I definitely am recommending Coraline to my Friends and intend to read the book to see how Movie & Book relate.

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS: One (fans of the film who are not that techno-savvy) only wonder how they can buy the DVD if their Players at home are not 3-D rigged.

A few Words about Valentine's Day, 2009.

Chicago, IL USA:

It's not how many red roses you receive today,

how much the expensive Dinner out was,

how big the heart-shaped box of candy was,

it's the time spent with your Loved One that counts the most.

So was the Theme of NBC local Chicago News, Channel 5 this morning when I got up and flicked on TheTube. It was nice to realize this, that in Times when Commerciality has taken over the Airwaves, the True Essence of Holidays (that are oft times used to kickstart an ailing Economy), it's the Core and Essence of the Event that truly matters the most.

Love and not LOVE of Money is what matters.

Truer Words were never said, whether you're a Romantic, Hopeless Romantic or none of the above.

Koopersmith's Intl Skeptics' Days ©96 collides with FAUX FUR FRIDAYS.

Chicago, IL USA: Again, I noticed on the Calendar that it's another FAUX FUR FRIDAY - the 7TH of the Year along with one of my older HOLIDATES, a floating Holidate, at that called:

International Skeptics' Days ©1996.

ISD doesn't happen often -- or often enough -- especially so in the Economy we are now living in where Unemployment centers are aflow with folks who have recently lost their jobs. They definitely have a right to be skeptical - after all, most of them will not be finding work any time too soon.

International Skeptics' Days ©1996 is slated for the Day an Election falls upon, for the explicit reason that most of us are skeptical of who is running and what they plan to pull and on Friday the 13TH...which happens no more than 4 times a year...it varies and that makes it equally as attractive. A time for hi-jinks and pranks, there's always a Shroud of Mystery around Friday the 13TH, a great time to be skeptical if you aren't already.

As for FAUX FUR FRIDAYS, and the Blend it takes from ISD, the ongoing dilemma is that many people are skeptical as to IF they are really wearing Faux Fur or not. Some cannot decipher if the Material they are wearing is real pelts or the preferred Faux Fur that saves Wildlife and makes its wearer look just as attractive, while saving the Environment from experiencing more Cases of Extinction.

The Two HOLIDATES blend together in an interesting manner. And, for the Thread that flows through them, it makes for more Faux Fur Food For Fodder.

Abe Lincoln's 200TH B-DAY BASH coincides with Koopersmith's LOST PENNY DAY (C)1995

LIVE FROM THE LAND OF LINCOLN

Chicago, IL USA.

The Day & Date have finally arrived. For most Americans and Historians who are 110 years or younger, they have had this Event in the back of their minds for the last century. 'IT' being the 200TH BiCentennial Celebration of our beloved 16TH President, Abraham Lincoln who called Illinois his Home for several years of his all-too-short life.

As a Fan of 'The Man' since a Youth, to honor him in 1995, I created:

LOST PENNY DAY (C)95

a Holidate in which Pennies that are LOST and subsequently FOUND are given to charity, shelters, etc. Now, in its 15TH Year, to honor President Lincoln, the entire Month has been temporarily changed to:

Lost Penny Month (C)2008

in order to celebrate and commemorate the contributions Mr. Lincoln had made. In 2010, it will again be celebrated ONLY on the date of his Birth. Strides have been made and, of course, it seems appropo that the United States now has a Bi-Racial President in the White House. Lincoln would like that, I'm sure.

HAVE YOU EVER?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in 1809? What was it like for Mrs. Lincoln, Abe's Mother, to give birth 'back then?' Did she go to a hospital? Were diapers invented? Did Baby Abe attend day care? Did he dine on fast food when he was a teen? What would he think of an iPod, eMail or Blogs like these? Life in a Pioneering America had to have been much rougher and would not fit the pampered Life-Styles many of us have today. Even for those living in poverty, life in the 1800s was simpler, but harder than it is today, yet they survived.

Traveling week-after-week across the continental USA in a Conestoga Wagon would not be my idea of a good time, when today a jet can fly coast-to-coast in a matter of hours. Sleeping in a rustic log cabin with no real heat or indoor plumbing would not suit most people.

However, if it was not for the Strength & Fortitude of our Forefathers and people like Abraham Lincoln, we would not be where we are today. They laid the Foundation for the privileged Lives we lead, which is much more sophisticated and comfortable than that of even 100 years ago - let alone 200 years.

Progress in that Time Slot of 200 years has been made on every Front, in every Industry. Collectively, as a Body of Man, we should not lose sight of where we came from, but develop from there, every Day. There are still great Frontiers to pioneer and navigate. Presiding over your creative Future is a healthy Sign of a Wealthy Individual no matter what Generation he/she is rooted in.

Even with the global downturn and depressionary times that are happening across the World, the Message to read for People who are losing fortunes, homes, etc., is that we still have more than our Forefathers of 200 years ago had...but then, again, it's what's INSIDE and not OUTSIDE your Log Cabin, that counts and matters the most.

Winter Biking. Its Benefits...ASK hits 1600 Mile Mark: February 9, 2009.

Chicago, IL USA: Today as I tip the Scale at my 'Sweet 16' & 40 & 1/2 Birthday Mark or Anniversary, it's finally good to see that I've 'made' 1600 miles on my Bike. As a year-long biking enthusiast who lost over 4 inches of baby-skin since 1997, my usual cycling score is 8-10 miles a day. However, with blizzard like conditions and weeks that produced below zero temperatures, Biking was out of the picture.

However, today at 9:55 AM at 7301 Ridge (Ridge & Chase in Chicago), I hit the 1600 mark since Memorial Day - May 29, 2008. As always, I highly recommend the Act & Art of Biking, no matter what model and make you choose to invest in. The Health Factor is at the top of the list, plus in Chicago where the Chicago Transit System demands $2.25 per ride (one way), that price is too expensive for the average person -- where average now means he/she does not even have full-time or 30 hours of work weekly.

Biking will get you to your destination, in shape...Today as I tip the Scale at 110 lbs...I'm proud to advise others that they, too, can give up the gas tank for a Bike or Trike.

You'll agree with me after only a few weeks on your new Transportation.

KOOPERSMITH's FAUX FUR FRIDAY #6 coincides with Pay-A-Compliment Day #15.

Subtitle: When Holidates collide, there's so much more to celebrate.

Chicago, IL USA. Nothing could be finer when multi-tasking overtakes a project and a few beneficial Topics are expounded upon for the better good of the overall population. Such was the case with two topics very near and dear to my heart:

1) my FAUX FUR FRIDAYS (C)2008

&

2) My Holidate known as PAY A COMPLIMENT DAY (C)1995

that occurs on yearly on February 6TH -- Today! -- since 1995.

However, it takes some brains and planning to interlink the Two, even with the Benefits of High Technology. Sometimes timing comes into place, as in the Timing that deals with Calendars. Leap Years can come and go, but the Mathematics of making these 'jive' may be harder than anticipated.

However, what does help is that when the Topics are quite Pop Culture in Nature, that can be easily done in and of itself. Therefore, without further adieu, your Eventological Assignment which is a real Calorie Burner as well for today is to:

Compliment someone you see who is wearing FAUX FUR because they look so attractive in it and the Act of Complimenting is a kindly Gesture as well as humanitarian and shows he/she has a certain Sense of Fashion Flair.

IS IT COINCIDENCE OR MEMOREX?

Is it any coincidence that these 2 Subjects fall on the same Date? Evidence proves there are no such things as Coincidence, but this, by far, proves that the two are joined and interlinked. Therefore, BREAK THE ICE, IT's TIME TO BE NICE and compliment someone who is making the RIGHT Selection by wearing FAUX FUR and not taking a animal's pelt or life. You may ask: What came first? The Compliment or the Faux Fur...you decide. There is no wrong answer.

“How did you ever think up that HOLIDATE?” is what hundreds of curious People have asked Ms. Koopersmith since she began this Goodwill Event nearly 14 years ago.”

Adrienne begins: “I was in the right place at the right time when the Inspiration struck me. Would you like to hear the Story – the Eventological Formula? It’s quite easy to understand. It’s almost a Fable. I had boarded a CTA Bus #155 in my neighborhood early one morning. Bus drivers are told to only pick up riders at the designated stops although some People will run after a bus, as if in trying to hail a Taxi.

This was the case. A Woman was half-a-block away from the Stop when the Bus rolled on past. The wind chill index was nearly zero; it was a bitterly, blustery February Day, the kind Chicago is well-known for. That’s why we’re thrilled February is a short month! The Bus Driver saw this frantic woman waving from his peripheral vision. I was already on board and watching the ‘Action.’ He immediately stopped the Bus and pulled over so she could hop-on-board. Delighted he had seen her (in stress), she ran to the Bus that had pulled over, boarded and thanked the driver profusely. This rare act(ion)saved her both time and waiting a spell in the severe cold. Who knows what she was hurrying off to. Perhaps a sick child in a hospital or another emergency? We will never know but can assume.

Thinking of all the possibilities, when I got to my Stop and exiting the vehicle, I merely commented to the Bus Driver:“I’m going to pay you a Compliment. Here it comes: 'That was really nice of you to stop for that Woman. A really decent thing to do...'”He listened as he slowed the bus down and seemed genuinely pleased that I had witnessed that random Gesture of Kindness. later that day when in my Studio, that Episode then became the Basis for this HOLIDATE:

PAY-A-COMPLIMENT DAY ©1995.

The CTA Bus Driver's unselfish Act also warmed the Remainder of My Day and therefore, it’s now eventologically fixed to warm all other subsequent February Sixes.

WORKING DYNAMICS OF PAY-A-COMPLIMENT DAY ©1995: Only genuine and soulful Compliments are to be made Today. Nothing should be premeditated although thinking of how to compliment our Family Members, Lovers, Neighbors, Co-Workers or even a Stranger-on-the-Street is highly recommended.

When a sincere Compliment comes straight from the Heart and a Glance is exchanged from a well-meaning and well-intentioned Person – when it comes from out-of-nowhere and is least expected, said Compliment is borne from a Special Place and arrives as a Total Surprise. That Action alone registers the Statement as a bona fide Compliment.In the Coldth of Winter (here in The Northern Hemisphere), what could be finer than that? “

The Truth about Ground Hogs' Day...February 2, 2009

Chicago, IL USA.

For some, it's cute. A Ground Hog is grabbed out of its sleep to be hoisted high above the crowd before the masses to forecast if the Winter will last or if it will be over with before Spring officially arrives on March 21.

As we all know, with Global Warming, 'Weather is not like it used to be' nor will it ever return again.

However, even IF the Ground Hog predicts (through Animal Reasoning) it will be warmer sooner than later, the truth of the Matter is:

Calendarically, February 2 is exactly 7 weeks away from March 21st.

For discerning People like myself, it's as annoying to the Ground Hog as it is for me to think that I can't count and know the Reality of Ground Hog's Day...
