National Splurge Day’s The Daily Splurge #169 for Sunday, December 7, 2014 is a Tribute and or Introduction to Duke Fulco di Verdura, the Sicilian Jewelry Maker who happened to associate with Coco Chanel (1883- 1971), the French Fashion Designer who became popular in both the Paris Literary and Artistic Worlds.  Coca may best remembered as being Creator of the LBD: Little Black Dress.

Deciding to reinvent her Look, Duke di Verdura thus created for himself a Reputation in the Fine Jewelry Industry that later catered to ‘The Stars’ when Movie Making was just beginning. Opening his First Salon on Fifth Avenue in New York and established in 1939, this Move correlated to a Time when Stories of every Possibility were tearing the World apart, yet something extraordinary was happening in Fashion and The Arts that would later be unrivaled.

Shortly thereafter, with the Advent of the Television Set, this catapulted (t)his Visibility further to Super-Stardom as more and more People became hooked on the High Intensity that only the Screen could provide.

And, how did I know that? By watching my Favorite Weekly TV Program, CBS Sunday with Charles Osgood, Lee Cowan, Mo Rocca, Anthony Mason, Martha Teichner  and The Tracey Smith (amongst other Prime Time  Journalists) who always introduce HOT & HAUTE Topics that I should either be focused on and/or educated about.

Nora O’Donnell of CBS This Morning (Monday-Friday) hosted this particular Segment [whose Eyes are as crystal blue as the Blue Iced Diamonds she showed us during that Interview].   We all have our favorite Verdura’s.  Whoopi Goldberg favors Moonstone in her Jewelry.  Therefore, when it comes to The Art and Act of Splurging as The Queen of Splurge and Founder/Originator of:

NATIONAL SPLURGE DAY ©1994

(now marking its 20TH Year ABC: Anniversary – Birthday - Celebration)

& YoTS:  YEARS OF THE SPLURGES ©2010

(Commemorated from 2014-2019 for NSD’s 20-25TH ABCs)

knowing where to get that IDI: Intel/Data/Info is as vitally incremental and important as splurging itself when ‘The Urge to Splurge’ overtakes you.  Verdura brings that out in a Person and has for the last 75 years marking their Diamond Anniversary now.

Peering at ‘The Calendar,’ tiz the Season for that with each and every Turn made.  The ‘Returns’ (not necessarily defined as the Regifting and Resifting now) on having that Input in your Data Bank and close-at-hand, cannot be measured.

As Ms. Chanel once said:  “I never wanted to weigh more heavily on a Man than a Bird.”  To which I would say: “Why do that when your Jewelry can?”

THEREFORE:  The Underlying Lesson and Moral to be learned from this CBS Sunday Segment of Sunday, December 7, 2014 (the 73RD Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day) simply is:

Duke Verdura did not need to make Jewelry. He lived in a Comfort Zone, a Life of Luxury, most of us never even dream (of).   However, he did and because of his Artistry, look at the Lives he touched by doing so and, even 36 years after his Death (in 1978) and now upon the 75TH Anniversary of

Verdura: The Master Jeweler,

the Story still continues to inspire a Legacy that sparkles; takes one’s breath away and attracts entire New Generations of  Collectors and Fanfare.  ‘Looking good just got better’ because of him.  How nice it would have been to have known him.

Brandon Stanton of @humansofny on: Being stuck...

***

Saturday, July 26, 2014 – The Daily Splurge® #36 encompasses an Opinion that lies in the profound Twitter Quote poised by:

Brandon Stanton of  @humansofny

who makes it his Mission to take Photographs and ask Questions of ‘People on the Street’ in Manhattan.  In one of the most colossal Cities of the World in which to SPLURGE, Brandon will never experience a Shortage of Subjects. He is also the Creator of the Blog and #1 NYT bestselling Book, Humans of New York. Smitten with what this Quote:

"I'm stuck in an institutional trap”

really touches upon: The Humanity behind Human Nature, it’s not hard to contemplate what happens when Words of Negativity as: Stuck – Institutional – Trap are cemented into print and then viral out of control here on Social Media Networks.  Negativity can indeed be changed into Positivity with a few Points & Clicks.

For those of us ever feeling stuck and/or ‘stuck in an institutional trap,’ there is no Way out but to push your darndest Way through to the other Side.  Fear may grasp those who make it to that point so that even taking that ‘Leap of Faith’ is NOT tried.  Some of us can fight through the PIRT: Problem, Issue and Red Tape; while others fall by the Wayside, giving up on their Ambitions & Dreams as the Conditions worsen or become too severe.  Others persist while overcoming those Odds while being called ‘valiant’ or ‘heroic.’  Being ‘stuck’ prevents any Variety of Movement whether it’s physical, mental or spiritual in Nature and thus halts all Forms of SPLURGING.  Since 1 Picture alone can stop us in our Path and make us think as  Brandon Stanton’s did, it triggers the Act(ion) of ‘doing’ something about those adverse Conditions, so that Levity, Enlightenment and the Joys of SPLURGING can emerge and do what they are BEST doing – acting Human.  It’s a Job that he does well…
