How ‘THE URGE TO SPLURGE’ operates in a Lackluster Economy.

The Creator of National Splurge Day ©1994

When the ‘URGE TO SPLURGE’ overtakes you and the Sudden Realization hits that you don’t have 2 nickels to rub together, what do you do? As a Sociology Major who has studied Human Phenomena for Decades that’s what I’ve been seeing happen before my very eyes to multitudes and millions of people (across the world) since the economic ball fell circa 2008. However, since:

EVENTOLOGY ®

The ART of Event-Making

Adrienne Sioux Koopersmith’s Campaigns For Humanity ©1990

was introduced by me to the World as a new Literary Genre beginning on Wednesday, July 25, 1990 at 9:45 PM to improve the Lives of Mankind (Women, Children and Pets included), there’s systematic, insightful and intelligent (yet not bank-busting) ways to get around this shattering dilemma.

#1: Above all else, Eventology (as an Art & Study) is a spirited and spiritual State of Mind and Heart that I created and enforce. Anyone anywhere can see that only those Individuals and Institutions who are humanitarian are the ones that will succeed in this world. And, with that said: Splurging is what you make of it. When I started this HOLIDATE (as these Events are called), in 1994 (19 years ago) there were many unbridled Ways to splurge depending on how RICH you were and what amount you wanted to spend and could spend.

Back in that Time Slot, all my Writings and Thought Processes dealt with the Materialism that ‘mattered more’ to Humanity and Westernized Societies. Keeping up with the Joneses destroyed many. Today, the Day of the BIG $PENDER has vanished for many of us. Jobs are rare as Unemployment swells. Food Stamps feed millions. Gasoline Prices need their own bank account. ‘Celebrating on a Shoe String’ is the primary focus now as National Splurge Day’s Activities soon fall on:

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

its designated year. FYI: That Eventological Formula follows: April 15Th is Income Tax Day in the United States. It takes approximately 6 weeks for Americans to receive their Checks back. That takes us up to mid-June. With monies returned, the Working Class now had an Additional Sum in which they could $pend without worry. Therefore, I conceived National Splurge Day ©1994 in order to help kickstart their Summer(s) which would officially being on the 21ST of June.

TAKING US UP TO JUNE OF 2013: With so many homes in foreclosure; people living from paycheck-to- paycheck; kids accruing huge student loans that they can never pay back and credit card debt escalating, GOING ALL OUT is extremely difficult (and outright a stupid action); however, if you use SHOPPING as your Main Indicator to celebrate, I highly suggest Resale Shops. Making Gifts is a 2nd Alternative that I’ve done which also allows the person to explore their creative side. Second Handbook Stores offer great deals, not only for Reading Groups, but in order to build up your Literary Collection.

If you splurge by dining out, order an entrée or meal that will not cause you to take out a second mortgage. Think B-4 U $pend.

For those of you who wish to Tweet this NEWS out to your Followers, here’s the Official 140 Character Post:

Michael Johnson, Popular Evanston, IL Artist: An Exploration into & Portfolio of Americana & Folk Art.

ASK/CHICAGO’s ART RECO OF THE MONTH:
Sunday, June 16, 2013: Father's Day

Michael Johnson (a life-long Evanston, Illinois Resident) is an award-winning, full time, gifted and talented Artist who has Downs Syndrome. He paints Animals and Children (two of everyone’s favorite topics) in a unique style and manner that has been sought by Collectors and Galleries for over 2 decades now.

I personally have known Michael & his Mother, Robin since the 1980s when Robin operated the ever-popular Retail Space on Custer & Reba Streets that housed an Assortment Antique Dealers, called THE ANTIQUE MALL. Here she gave so many merchants a break that allowed them to sell their goods. This may have been the initial Impetus that help to nurture Michael’s Passion for Art & Painting. His brilliant and cheery colors will brighten any and every room.

Now, you can view Michael’s latest Video @:

http://youtu.be/dnQZmVV8nZQ

Within a few seconds of its airing, you will instantly see that Michael proves there is no such ‘thing’ as a Handicap or Disability. We all possess Talents that need to be harvested and explored.

Michael’s Web page is online @: www.artistmichaeljohnson.com

His Online Portrait of the Cardinal should be purchased by each State Government that has this lovely bird as their State’s Bird. I know there are several, including Illinois.

FURTHERMORE: If you are or known an Art Dealer, Gallery Owner and/or Arts/Pets’ Reporter and would like to learn more about his colossal Artistry and Life’s Journey, please email him at:

michael(at)artistmichaeljohnson(dot)com

With The City of Evanston now celebrating its 150TH Birthday – Sesquicentennial during 2013, Michael indeed shines as a new Generation of Artists that will keep that Spirit and Love of The Arts alive for this Community and those from both near & afar that truly appreciate the Efforts of those Creatifs amongst us.

Ausrine’s Arts Room: What The ARTS are to be all about. Evanston's Hidden Gem.

DATELINE: Tuesday, June 11, 2013 – 2:10 PM CST

ASK/CHICAGO’s ART RECO:

As the City of Evanston celebrates its 150 Year, it's just plain neat to discover a Hidden Gem that I had not known  about before.  I just discovered a new ART Gallery by taking a wrong turn through Evanston, IL USA. Lucky, lucky me. That type of Adventure is one that I am always up for. Located at:

1123 Florence Avenue is Ausrine’s Arts Room

This is, my far, the most delightful Space I have seen in years (and) I attend gallery openings regularly. From Lithuania, Ausrine owns and operates the Gallery and is a trained Artist (with her MA in Art Education)& Award Winner, calling Lithuania her home. AND, it shows by her concept that states:

“The concept I’ve developed for this unique space is to encourage emerging and established artists, in their creative growth. Toward this, end, I’ve opened the Art Room, where workshops in printmaking, felt & fiber work and leather, will be offered. Each workshop will be offer twice monthly: Once at night and once on a weekend (day). The techniques will rotate monthly.

For those Artists who need space for their projects, the room may be rented. Curated Shows are a regular feature at Ausrine’s Arts Room. On a regular bases throughout the year, a CALL FOR ARTISTS is issued.

As Ausrine states and I paraphrase: “It was good fortune to be able to find a bright, spacious environment in Evanston to continue offering workshops and to share my skills that are a great joy to me…”

Her 20 year exhibition history is available to any journalist/reporter/art collector/aficionado upon request.

What stopped me initially was the profound Works, Detail & intense Coloring of Dovile Riebschlager pictured in the window, as I am sure those Paintings would stop you in your tracks. Find more online at: www.doviart.me

What a delightful Way to mark my day. This is a Woman that not only loves Art (and what it symbolizes), but knows her Art, but lives her Art and takes on the task (happily) of expanding the Dreams of Other(s Artists) via the Space she has so meticulously and lovingly created.

IN CLOSING: Contact Ausrine at: ausri.kerr(at)gmail(dot)com

The Gallery’s online presence is at: www.ausrinesartsroom.net

"Because The Knead is there," Challah for Hunger feeds Americans 1 Loaf-@-A-Time.

It’s no fun being hungry.  Yet, if you google the question:

How many people go hungry in the world every day?

the numbers would astound you.

According to:  www.actionagainsthunger.org/

3.5 million Children die each year from Hunger

According to: www.nokidhungry.org/

16 million American Children go to bed hungry.

Knowing these facts have risen (especially so since I was a Teenager (and well-fed at that -  growing up in the 1960s), one concerned Organization that has jumped in to help alleviate the Growing Hunger Crisis is based in Evanston, Illinois coming out of Northwestern University.

Called Challah for Hunger, I spoke to one of their spokeswomen, Ms. Alexis Leon (who calls  Philadelphia home), on the evening of June 5 night at Beth Emet, the Free Synagogue located at the Intersection of Ridge & Dempster.  One of the Members of Beth Emet, Jeff introduced her to me and the lively conversation that followed indeed is FOOD FOR FODDER as well as Inspiration for us all, as well as realizing that we all have blessings that should be counted on a day-by-day basis.

As part of Northwestern’s Hillel, Challah for Hunger  (known as:  CfH)  has been in existence  at the Evanstonian Campus for four (4) years – baking bread – loaves  - of this well-known, loved, traditional and delicious Jewish Bread called:

CHALLAH.

For an historical overview of Challah, just check out Wikipedia*.

Plain, Chocolate Chip and Cinnamon Sugar are the primary Flavors currently baked. Pumpkin Spice is especially popular during Autumn Harvest Time.  On their Line-up (to add a colorful and festive flair) are their Sprinkles and Pretzel Challahs.  All mouth-watering down to the last crumb.

A board of six bakers head their weekly volunteers who number as many as 30 people who know that involvement and volunteering in a grassroots movement like this can only better all concerned parties.  Thus, the term:  ‘Breaking Bread’ takes on a new meaning for their group.

As Kirby Barth stated on the CfH  FB page of:   Today (June 6th, that is) is the last day to volunteer this year! If you want to make your own free challah next week, come volunteer today until 6! If you want to buy challah fresh out of the ovens, come at 6pm to buy a challah! :)

As the School Year begins again in the late Summer of 2013, their Goal (of course – no pun intended) is to attain more Sales in the area.  I suggested they approach Spertus Museum and any Jewish Catering Group in the area.  I was pleased to hear that Loaves can be purchased online, 24/7.

The Philanthropy News Digest  at http://tinyurl.com/m39bpwq  and the Official www.Challahforhunger.org website tell us and I will cite their Clause that:

Challah for Hunger (CfH) brings together volunteers to bake and sell challah bread, raising money and awareness for social justice causes. Established with a single chapter at Scripps College in 2004, the network has grown organically to nearly 60 chapters, mostly based on college campuses throughout the U.S. In the 2011-2012 school year, the chapters baked more than 40,000 loaves of challah, raising and donating more than $115,000.’

CfH chapters are supported by a small team of full- and part-time staff and volunteers, especially the chapter advisors. Chapter advisors are experienced alumni who are trained to be the main point-of-contact between the network and the individual chapters. Each advisor works with 1-5 chapters.”

Today, their Numbers add up to an entire new Dimension on how to Fight Hunger:

Spring 2013 ChallahCount:

5,819 challah loaves eaten = $21,845 donated

Lifetime CfH = $449,989

As Challah for Hunger grows because “The Knead is there” (and you can quote/unquote me on that one),  more and more civic, culinary, religious and familial groups (for starters) will be subscribing to their Program.  After all, as many of us know who have studied the Plague of Homelessness not only in America, but abroad, a person cannot or will not operate correctly and for the best interest of his or her well-being if not properly fed and where nutrition has to play that roll.

The Irony of it all is that so many people are overweight while so many others are starving.  Coming up with a new Way to alleviate and/or fight Hunger was what the Students at Hillel Northwestern did and the way I see it, they are destined for success.

Breaking Bread, one Loaf at a time, while feeding others is commendable and innovative. It's Biblical.  It's humane. It's the thing-to-do. It's righteous and now we're seeing that the Concept is working.

If we all BAN TOGETHER FOR THE BAKING OF THE BREAD,  Challah for Hunger will succeed in  their Goals.  And, that’s quite easy to do by Social Media Networking with them via Facebook & Twitter.

Facebook.com/Challah for Hunger Northwestern University
and
@challahforhunger.org

Just remember that HUNGER and STARVATION are horrific Global Problems that capture the headlines year-in and year-out.  Hunger stymies the physical and spiritual souls of each of us, no matter what religious faith (if any) we may follow.

For  many of our neighbors who live on the Fringe (in our own communities and on our very blocks) – on the Edge – it’s a daily occurrence.  You can help make that difference by supporting CHALLAH FOR HUNGER today.  As their Motto reads:  BAKE. EAT. SAVE LIVES. REPEAT.

Pain Management: An Ongoing Forum to feel your Best: 24/7.

DATELINE:  Tuesday, June 4, 2013

Needless to say, PAIN is the most debilitating problem or issue that can happen to any of us. It keeps us from getting up in the morning and ultimately to achieving our dreams.  Even the most elementary of tasks cannot be done when UTI: Under the Influence of Pain. It’s not only debilitating for those of us who suffer FROM it, but for that person’s loved ones who see them go through this non-stop Conflict.  Therefore, I was incredibly amazed and startled both that just last week I learned of a term that I had never heard before that deals with Pain and all it entails.  That term is:  Pain Management Doctor.  Then, today, as I was perusing the new June Magazines at Barnes and Noble, I quite unexpectedly discovered:

PAIN PATHWAYS MAGAZINE

Richard L. Rauck, MD - Editor in Chief

info@pathways.org

www.painpathways.org

PAIN PATHWAYS MAGAZINE is  on Facebook – Twitter – Pinterest.

Additionally, PAIN PATHWAYS MAGAZINE  has Pain Resources & Book Reviews.

My gut intuition tells me that since so many people (across the planet) suffer from Chronic PAIN (and many diseases that are painful), a Magazine is now needed that will help the layman connect ‘the dots.’ By learning more about this topic since Medical Science is making so many astounding break-throughs, then we are able to share and know how the Pain can be alleviated.

This is the first Magazine of its kind that I ever (personally saw) and as a Publicist, I’m continually scouting out for the latest Media, Outlets and Trends.  I carefully went thru each page, culling it for the key terms that I could tell you about.  I have some very close friends who are not pain-free and have bought copies of the magazine for them.  However, I was able to skim for some interesting Websites that can lead you (and/or others you may know) so that their life is less pain-filled.

Those notes follow for your perusal.  I highly suggest you check-out the given websites and invest in a subscription of PAIN PATHWAYS MAGAZINE.  The resources (at its rear) is incredible. After all, it only takes one person to open that door to lessen the hurt.
