RE:  What it takes to be a Writer

Dear  ___:       What I find amusing is the degree of Notoriety and KNOW-toriety writers/authors/creatifs can achieve in their lifetime for the Works they produce.  Notice, I did not use the word:  PUBLISH.  Once a production is complete (or sort of done), it can take on a life of its own.   It can take-off and end up in places never dreamt.  Such is and was the case of my Literary Genre called:

EVENTOLOGY
THE ART EVENT-MAKING

ADRiENNE SiOUX KOOPERSMiTH’s CAMPAIGNS FOR HUMANITY ©1990

that I launched on Wednesday, July 25, 1990 at 9:45 PM CST.  Although I also head my own PRAM: Public Relations – Advertising – Marketing Biz and self- publicize my Works, what I do mind terribly is when people (so-called journalists and reporters) think they can put WORDS into my Mouth.

HOW THIS CONCLUSION WAS ARRIVED UPON:  It’s a very good idea to google your name to see where your name is landing. I do this on a semi-regular basis.  This allows me to update my Media List of who noticed and acknowledged my Writings that appear frequently on my blogs and throughout my social networks.  It allows me to then pen a proper thank you note to them if the article is complimentary and/or correct them if they are wrong.

Some of the grandest periodicals (magazines + newspapers) and TV/Radio stations on the planet fall liable to following this sour/dour practice.  Furthermore, if it happens to me, it probably is happening to other writers/authors at all levels of productivity/publishing.  Now is the time to expose it for the greater good!  Editors and Publishers have a high standing to maintain.  If they allow lies and fallacies to surface, they should be reprimanded and outright fired for on-the-job negligence.  Fact-checking is instrumental in today’s literary scene as it is in all others.

ON A LIGHTER AND MORE BOASTFUL SIDE:  I had to laugh and admit:  This Stream of Media Coverage that I have received since 1990 was all done without having one book published by a leading book publisher. In those days, that technique was called:  GUERRILLA MARKETING.   The topics I created were that popular and spectacular and they still are.  They hit a vein in people. People reacted.  In my Collection of Works/Words, approximately 10 prototypes of Books (Manuscripts) are ready to go into the next step of production with 40  patiently waiting in ‘the wings.’  Cited as:

America’s Premier Eventologist’

by Gene Koprowski of Insight Magazine in Washington, DC in August 1997

&

The Premier Eventologist in The History of The World

by Eric Zorn of The Chicago Tribune in Chicago in January, 2001

I have 1,900 HOLIDATES TO CELEBRATE that fall into 34 specific Categories.  Each could/should be a mini-Book or several Encyclopedias. Throughout the last two decades, many have already been made into Greeting Cards.

HOWEVER:  You have to admit, this is highly problematic not only for the Creatif but for the Reader, Subscriber, Scholar and/or Student who is reading material that is misrepresented.  Why these reporters and journalists report on a story without CONSULTING with the Creator FIRST AND FOREMOST is beyond me. Why these reporters and journalists report on a story without listing my Name as CREATOR is more than insulting, it is criminal.  They can easily email, FB or tweet the writer/author.  They can find their phone number in a matter of seconds.  There is no excuse for their lameness.

IN MY PARTICULAR CASE THE LAST 22 YEARS:  No literary agent or publisher ever came forth when an article was published, i.e.:  when this slew of these articles (listed below) were current.  However, in 1995, I did contact some Literary Agents and have a stack of Testimonials as to the uniqueness of these Writings.  This is when it was much easier to get ‘through’ and an answer would be forthcoming.  Gone are ‘those days.’

THE INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED MEDIA

THAT HAS SPOTLIGHTED MY WRITINGS / CONCEPTS / PHILOSOPHIES

 1990 - Present

As a Creative Writer since July 25, 1990, Interviews about me as a noted Writer, Trendsetter and ‘Someone to Watch’ appeared in:

USA Today, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Insight Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Sun-Times, Time Magazine,  ESPN: The Magazine; Fast Company, Redbook, More Magazine, Woman’s World, Sports Illustrated For Kids, Village Voice, Nickelodeon, The Times Picayune, The Gainesville Sun, The Springfield News-Leader, Dave Egger’s Might Magazine, The Milwaukee-Journal-Sentinel, The Detroit Free Press, The Daily Herald, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Advocate/Greenwich Time, The San Antonio Express, The Dallas Morning News, Skyline, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Home Cooking, Cooking Light, Chase’s Calendar of Events, The Daily Northwestern, Popular Photography and Imaging, Shutterbug, Kennedy’s Confection (London, England), Eric Cohen Books (Israel) and an Estonian Newspaper as well as an endless Assortment of Websites, Blogs, Facebook Postings, ‘Tweets’ on  Twitter and employing other popular Social Networks. Besides being the Guest on over 3,000 Radio Interviews (including The Voice of America since 1990), ABC, NBC, CBS & MSNBC Television Networks have also featured me for my Creation of these EVENTOLOGICAL Works.

LET THIS SERVE AS A WARNING:  Now, the saddest point to make is that the 90% of my Works are on floppy disks (the variety we used from 1994 to circa 2009), meaning they are outdated and obsolete when it comes to reproducing the Material.  However, I do have Backup in the form of Paper Copies, because when you open your eyes up and admit it, we will never be a thoroughly paperless society.  And, yes, I have a booklet on that Topic of going Paperless as well.

Luckily, my movie script called iN THE COMPANY OF ANTS ©2009 (that beat out 3,164 other contenders and placed in Scriptapalooza’s International Screenplay Competition located in Hollywood, California) is on a flash drive and backed up.  It is part and parcel of my 7-part book and movie script collection called:

SKiN: SACRED KINSHP iN NATURE™

HOW 10 BELOVED PLUSH TOYS REDEFINE RACE ©2009

that deals with the highly pertinent topics of:

- Erasing Racism;

- Dissolving the Mixed Signals and Ironies we receive every Day; and

- Getting to the Heart of what really matters

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A WRITER:

There are a Plethora of Topics that stem from Writing ‘right’ and what happens via the Usage and Proliferation of High Technology.  When things go ‘write’ compared to when things go ‘wrong,’ Writing is never an easy task. These Topics should be covered in every  Writing Class, Case and Seminar ever hosted. These are very important topics that people (who want to be a WRITER/AUTHOR) must know about before they start pursuing this Art, Craft and Pastime.  They need to know:

Can we creatifs keep up with it?

What if a reporter misrepresents your works?

What if you stumble upon someone on the web plagiarizing your words and cashing in on those?

What happens when you win a contest and decide to switch gears in order to ‘write’ for the masses?

Why don’t journalists give credit where it’s due?

The list is certainly endless.   Shall I go on and on?  I’ve been known to!

Therefore, if you are hosting a panel in your upcoming _____Annual Convention and/or Book Fest or Fair and would like for me to speak as a panelist, let me know.   I find this Body of Topics concerning ‘Writer’s Rights’ (we could call it) to be of utmost importance and extremely interesting.   ‘Staying ahead’ of the Writing Curve is difficult on its own these days in so many ways.  This can encompass trying to get published in a publication. Then, it is broken down into IF it is your article or another writer who is writing about you.   Then, did they interview you or just take their findings from material found on the web?  What if you are not given the credit you deserve? This changes the entire Course of Literature by dispelling the Accuracy of that Article. And, let us not forget:
When something is placed in Cyberspace, it stays there forever.
These act(ions) borders on criminal – on Copyright Infringement of Intellectual Property.  The world would be pretty boring if there were no Intellectuals producing the Property we so enjoy today.   Two acts of Copyright Infringement happened to me earlier this year when my copyrighted, 18 year old material was placed on NBC TV for 29 days’ worth of commercials and I didn’t receive a single dime.  Yes, this, too, is slated as a book because its story needs to be told to protect the innocent.

So many Topics deal with Writing.  We’ll never get bored, will we!

In closing, thank you, ______, so much for letting me tell you about a subject matter that matters and affects us all each day.  Please call-on-me if you need an Article or Panelist for any of your creative endeavors.  I’d be happy to participate.

Sincerely,
